The role

Summary

Confluent is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build and enhance their cloud-native Kora storage engine, focusing on developing highly available, performant, and scalable distributed systems infrastructure across multi-cloud environments. The ideal candidate will drive complex technical solutions end-to-end, working collaboratively to solve challenging distributed systems problems.

What you'll do

Storage Engine Development: Build and develop the mission-critical Confluent Cloud storage engine, focusing on high performance, scalability, and reliability

Project Execution: Independently drive complex software projects from design to production, maintaining a strong focus on quality and technical excellence

Systems Troubleshooting: Identify root causes of technical issues, troubleshoot complex problems across multi-cloud infrastructure, and implement robust solutions

Cross-Cloud Operations: Improve operational processes for a technical stack spanning multiple cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP)

Collaborative Problem Solving: Work effectively in teams, making decisions that benefit both the team and the company while maintaining a customer-focused approach

Distributed SystemsStrong fundamentals in distributed systems design and development

Cloud InfrastructureExperience building and operating large-scale systems in cloud environments

Systems OperationsSolid understanding of systems operations including disk, network, and operating system fundamentals

Education

Academic QualificationBS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience

Experience

Cloud ExperienceMinimum 2+ years of cloud infrastructure or cloud networking experience

Skills

Required skills

Programming LanguagesProficiency in Java, Scala, C/C++, Go, or other statically typed languages

Cloud PlatformsExperience with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

Systems DesignAbility to design and implement scalable, resilient distributed systems

Nice to have

Distributed StorageBackground in distributed storage systems or databases

Resource ManagementExperience in resource management and Quality of Service (QoS)
