What you'll do.
Cursor is seeking a Field Engineer for Japan to be the technical frontline of their AI-powered coding platform, working directly with enterprise customers to drive adoption of their developer productivity tool. This role combines deep technical expertise with customer-facing excellence, requiring someone who can bridge the gap between technical engineering teams and business stakeholders. You'll lead proof-of-concept engagements, deliver technical workshops, and serve as a product advocate while helping shape Cursor's enterprise roadmap.
Responsibilities
- Technical Discovery and Proof-of-Concept Leadership: Partner with Account Executives to conduct technical discovery sessions, design proof-of-concept engagements, and validate customer use cases. Lead hands-on demos of Cursor's AI capabilities, demonstrating how the platform accelerates development workflows and integrates with existing engineering toolchains.
- Customer Relationship Management and Advisory: Build and maintain strategic relationships with engineering leaders, architects, developers, and CTOs. Serve as a trusted technical advisor, translating between customer business objectives and technical implementation strategies while establishing credibility as a subject matter expert in AI-assisted coding.
- Solution Design and Implementation Guidance: Translate customer requirements into comprehensive solution architectures, guiding organizations on best practices for platform rollout, prompt engineering strategy, code context configuration, and enterprise adoption frameworks.
- Technical Presentations and Knowledge Transfer: Develop and deliver customized technical presentations, interactive whiteboard sessions, architectural deep-dives, and hands-on workshops. Create tailored content that resonates with both technical and executive audiences across different organizational structures.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration and Product Advocacy: Act as the voice of the customer internally, collaborating with Sales, Product, and Engineering teams to influence roadmap priorities, escalate critical feature requests, and ensure customer feedback drives product decisions. Participate in strategic account planning to identify expansion opportunities.
- Customer Onboarding and Success Handoff: Ensure smooth transitions to post-sales customer success teams by documenting technical decisions, creating implementation runbooks, and maintaining continuity throughout the customer lifecycle. Support ongoing technical validation and expansion initiatives.
- Competitive Analysis and Product Positioning: Maintain deep knowledge of Cursor's capabilities, competitive landscape analysis, and industry trends in AI-assisted development. Develop persuasive positioning strategies that clearly communicate unique value propositions and differentiation versus competing solutions.

Technical
Software Development Lifecycle Expertise
Deep understanding of modern software development workflows, version control systems (Git), CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and deployment strategies. Familiarity with how development teams integrate tools into their existing toolchains.
Hands-On Coding Ability
Practical experience writing code in modern programming languages (Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Go, Java, or similar). While not requiring full-time engineering expertise, you must be fluent enough to understand code, debug issues, and work alongside developers.
AI and Machine Learning Fundamentals

Education
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Related Field
Formal education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience demonstrating strong technical foundations.
Product and Business Acumen
Understanding of B2B SaaS business models, enterprise software licensing, customer success metrics, and how technical solutions drive business value.
Experience
Field Engineering or Solutions Architecture Experience
3-5 years of experience in Field Engineering, Solutions Architecture, or Solutions Consulting roles at enterprise software companies. Track record of successfully leading technical engagements with large organizations.
Developer Tools and Productivity Software Experience
Prior experience selling, implementing, or supporting developer productivity tools, IDEs, code quality platforms, or AI-assisted development solutions. Understanding of developer personas and their decision-making processes.
Enterprise Customer Management
Demonstrated success managing complex enterprise relationships, navigating organizational hierarchies, and driving adoption across technical and business stakeholders.
Startup Environment Experience

About the Role
We’re hiring Field Engineers to partner with prospective and strategic enterprise customers. As a Field Engineer, you’ll be the technical face of Anysphere in the field, helping customers evaluate Cursor, guiding them through proofs of concept, and ensuring they see the full value of AI in their engineering workflows.

What you’ll do
Partner with Account Executives to lead technical discovery, demos, and proof-of-concept engagements
