Summary

Gecko Robotics is seeking a highly specialized Forward Deployed Robotics Engineer to develop advanced underwater sensor fusion and localization systems for robotic inspection technologies. The ideal candidate will design robust navigation algorithms for GPS-denied environments, focusing on precise state estimation and sensor integration for critical infrastructure monitoring robots.

What you'll do

Sensor Fusion Development: Design and implement advanced filtering algorithms for underwater robotic navigation systems, including Kalman Filters, Extended Kalman Filters, and Particle Filters
Navigation System Design: Develop robust localization strategies for GPS-denied underwater environments, handling sensor dropout, drift compensation, and intermittent aiding
Sensor Calibration: Perform comprehensive sensor stack calibration, including IMU bias estimation, DVL alignment, pressure-depth offsets, and acoustic timing synchronization
Field Deployment: Deploy and debug sensor fusion solutions under operational constraints, tuning estimators and ensuring reliable performance in challenging underwater conditions

Technical

Advanced Filtering AlgorithmsProficiency in designing Kalman Filters, Extended Kalman Filters (EKF), Unscented Kalman Filters (UKF), and Particle Filters
Sensor IntegrationExpert-level experience in multi-sensor data fusion for underwater robotics, including IMUs, DVLs, pressure sensors, and acoustic positioning systems
State-Space ModelingAdvanced skills in formulating continuous and discrete-time dynamic models for underwater vehicle navigation

Education

Advanced DegreePhD or MS in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field with a focus on robotic navigation and sensor fusion

Experience

Underwater RoboticsMinimum 5+ years of experience in developing navigation systems for underwater or autonomous robotic platforms
Field DeploymentProven track record of successfully deploying complex sensor fusion solutions in challenging real-world environments
