What you'll do.

Senior Full Stack Engineer role at Hopper leading the voice and realtime layer for HTS Assist, an agentic AI travel assistant handling flight changes, cancellations, and bookings across chat and voice channels. Responsibilities

  • Voice Channel Ownership: Own the voice channel end to end, including design and integration of telephony platforms (Twilio, Amazon Connect) and Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS) solutions, managing streaming speech-to-text and text-to-speech pipelines, orchestrating realtime language models, and maintaining both latency and quality budgets for voice interactions.
  • Full-Stack Product Development: Develop product features across the complete technology stack, designing interactive web chat interfaces in React and TypeScript, implementing backend services in Scala and Python, deploying infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform, and ensuring seamless integration across all layers.
  • Multi-Tenant Architecture Design: Design and implement configuration-driven multi-tenant platform architecture enabling a single codebase to serve numerous enterprise travel partners through flexible configuration mechanisms rather than code forking or version management.
  • Security and Compliance Implementation: Build and maintain safety and compliance infrastructure that enterprise partners audit, including implementing guardrails for harmful outputs, content filtering mechanisms, and PII redaction integration points that meet regulatory requirements.
  • Production System Reliability: Maintain revenue-critical deployments through comprehensive observability, proactive alerting, incident response procedures, and SLA performance management ensuring system uptime and reliability for customer-facing voice interactions.
  • Platform Capability Development: Build platform capabilities and abstractions that forward-deployed engineers configure for partner telephony integrations and production go-lives, reducing integration complexity and accelerating partner onboarding timelines.
  • Technical Leadership and Mentoring: Raise the engineering bar across the team through thorough code reviews, architecture reviews, technical mentoring of junior engineers, and establishing best practices for realtime systems development and operational excellence.
  • Realtime Model Orchestration: Design and optimize the orchestration layer for realtime language model inference, managing latency budgets, throughput optimization, fallback strategies, and cost-efficient deployment of conversational AI models in production voice applications.
  • Distributed System Reliability: Implement resilient distributed systems patterns including circuit breakers, retry logic, graceful degradation, and fault tolerance mechanisms to ensure voice channel stability during infrastructure failures or traffic spikes.

About the Role

HTS Assist is Hopper's agentic AI assistant for travel, resolving flight changes, cancellations, refunds, and bookings over chat and voice for some of the world's largest travel brands. We're looking for a senior full stack engineer to anchor this product, owning the realtime and voice layer end to end while building across React/TypeScript front ends, Scala and Python services, and cloud infrastructure. The team is lean and senior, ownership is broad, and the path from your code to a traveler's phone call is short.

What would your day-to-day look like

  • Own the voice channel end to end, including telephony and CPaaS integrations (e.g., Twilio, Amazon Connect), streaming speech-to-text and text-to-speech pipelines, realtime model orchestration, and latency and quality budgets
