The role

Summary

Hopper is seeking a highly skilled Senior Site Reliability Engineer to join their Cloud FinOps team, focusing on optimizing cloud infrastructure, reducing costs, and maintaining reliable systems for a high-growth travel technology platform. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in cloud optimization, infrastructure management, and proactive problem-solving to support Hopper's global technology ecosystem.

What you'll do

Cloud Cost Optimization: Drive cost efficiency initiatives by reducing network egress costs, optimizing data storage strategies, and implementing smart autoscaling for databases and compute resources
Infrastructure Management: Manage and maintain large-scale infrastructure in Google Cloud, ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and cost-effectiveness for hundreds of engineering team members
Cost Attribution: Improve and maintain cost tracking systems to provide clear visibility of infrastructure expenses across different engineering teams
Incident Support: Participate in platform incident on-call rotations, provide infrastructure support, and contribute to resolving engineering team challenges
Infrastructure Improvements: Review and approve platform-related pull requests, contribute to infrastructure design, and implement automation solutions

What we look for

Technical

Cloud PlatformsExpert-level knowledge of Google Cloud Platform, with strong understanding of cloud infrastructure management
ContainerizationProficiency with Containers, Kubernetes, Kustomize, and Helm for infrastructure deployment and management
NetworkingAdvanced networking knowledge including DNS, TLS, certificates, ingresses, service mesh technologies like Istio

Education

Technical DegreeBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field preferred

Experience

SRE/DevOps BackgroundMinimum 5+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, or Systems Engineering
Cloud Cost ManagementProven track record of implementing cost optimization strategies in cloud environments

Skills

Required skills

Google CloudComprehensive understanding of Google Cloud Platform services and architecture
ScriptingProficiency in Bash, Python, and other scripting languages for infrastructure automation
ObservabilityExperience with log collection, metrics, APM tools (preferably Datadog)

Nice to have

Security ExpertiseAdvanced knowledge of IAM, RBAC, network security, authentication, and authorization technologies
Database TechnologiesStrong understanding of various database technologies and optimization techniques
