The role

Summary

Modal is seeking an experienced Forward Deployed Engineer to drive technical sales success in their AI infrastructure platform. The role involves partnering with sales teams to help enterprise customers understand and adopt Modal's serverless AI infrastructure solutions, requiring deep technical expertise in cloud platforms, containerization, and ML/AI technologies.

What you'll do

Technical Sales Partnership: Collaborate with Account Executives to identify, qualify, and close strategic enterprise opportunities in AI infrastructure
Customer Discovery: Lead technical discovery sessions to understand customer infrastructure needs, pain points, and requirements
Solution Design: Architect and present compelling technical solutions demonstrating Modal's platform capabilities
Infrastructure Migration: Design migration paths from existing cloud infrastructure to Modal's serverless platform
Technical Demonstrations: Conduct technical demos, experiments, and proof-of-concepts showcasing Modal's AI infrastructure capabilities
Customer Relationship Management: Build trusted advisor relationships with technical decision-makers like CTOs and VP of Engineering
Product Feedback: Collaborate with product and engineering teams to communicate customer insights and influence product roadmap

Technical

Cloud ExpertiseComprehensive knowledge of AWS, GCP, and Azure cloud services including compute, storage, networking, and managed services
ContainerizationAdvanced understanding of Docker, Kubernetes, and container orchestration technologies
Database TechnologiesProficiency in SQL and NoSQL databases, data pipelines, and distributed systems architecture

Education

Technical DegreeBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field preferred

Experience

Sales EngineeringMinimum 5 years of experience in solutions engineering, sales engineering, or customer-facing technical roles
Enterprise Sales CycleProven experience supporting enterprise software sales cycles with deals over $100K ACV
Infrastructure MigrationDemonstrated ability to build migration strategies for large-scale infrastructure transformations
