The role

Summary

Modal is seeking a Security Field Engineer to serve as a critical bridge between technical security, customer engagement, and product development. The ideal candidate will lead security conversations, enable enterprise sales, and drive continuous improvement of the company's security infrastructure and communication.

What you'll do

Customer Security Engagement: Lead technical security conversations with customers and prospects, responding to security reviews and architecture discussions with depth and clarity
Deal Enablement: Partner with Sales to unblock and accelerate security approvals, own complex security questionnaires and RFPs
Security Representation: Develop and evolve customer-facing security materials, ensuring external messaging accurately reflects internal systems and controls
Engineering Collaboration: Identify security gaps, work with engineering teams to prioritize and implement meaningful security improvements
Security Process Optimization: Improve security review workflows, evaluate and implement tools to scale customer security interactions

What we look for

Technical

Cloud Architecture KnowledgeSolid understanding of modern cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and distributed systems
Security Controls ExpertiseAbility to explain and implement authentication, isolation, encryption, and logging mechanisms

Education

Relevant DegreeBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related technical field preferred

Experience

Security Engineering ExperienceProven track record in security engineering, security GRC, or solutions engineering in a technical product company
Enterprise Sales SupportStrong experience engaging with customer security teams and supporting enterprise sales processes

Cloud SecurityDeep understanding of cloud security principles and practices
Technical CommunicationExceptional ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
Security Questionnaire ManagementExpertise in handling comprehensive security review processes
