Who We Are
Notion is the collaborative AI workspace where teams and agents think together. We're building one place where your knowledge, projects, meetings, and AI tools live side by side, so work is faster, clearer, and less fragmented. Millions of individuals, small teams, and large companies run their work on Notion.
Notinos (our employees) are customer zero in bringing this future of work to life. We care about craft, building things that last, and the belief that great work is still fundamentally human. Our goal isn’t to ship the next feature. Each and every team of Notinos is working to set the standard for how humans work together in the AI era. From building a business’s system of record to making and managing AI agents to automating away the busy work, we care deeply about giving our customers more time for their life’s work.
About the Role:
The Web Infrastructure team builds the foundations behind Notion’s web clients, including client architecture, performance, reliability, and shared design systems.
As Engineering Manager, you’ll lead the team through the evolution from Notion Clients. You’ll set strategy, develop senior engineers and managers, and partner across Notion to make the product faster, more reliable, and easier to build.
We work from our offices on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays (our Anchor Days) because we do our best thinking and building together in person. We’re looking for someone who’s excited to work alongside the team during those days.
What You'll Achieve:
You'll build and manage a diverse and inclusive team of engineers and managers working on core parts of Notion's architecture. You'll create a healthy environment in your team that embodies Notion's values.
You'll recruit, coach, and develop engineers. You'll ensure engineers are regularly receiving feedback and making progress on personal and professional goals.
You'll facilitate planning—the prioritization, sequencing, and staffing of work—for your team.
You'll be responsible for maintaining a high-quality bar for everything your team ships.
You'll own execution in your team to develop a steady cadence of delivering value to your users.
You'll work with others to shape how Notion's engineering organization works. You'll help develop our technical practices, recruiting and onboarding strategy, planning and prioritization process, and more.
Skills You'll Need to Bring:
You have managed senior engineering teams and managers, and have experience in scaling teams.
You have built, or are committed to building, diverse and inclusive teams.
You create team environments that are at once collaborative, empowering, supportive, and challenging—ones where engineers do their best work.
You have a sufficiently deep background in product and technology that you can ask the right questions of your team, balance product, tech, and people concerns, and make hard tradeoffs.
You think rigorously. You're prepared to tackle the toughest technical problems, understand trade-offs, and enable teams to make decisions and progress.
You have a high tolerance for ambiguity and change, especially around organizational structure and the boundaries of your role. You enjoy jumping into whatever areas need attention and learning as-you-go.
You value empathetic and direct communication, particularly when giving and receiving feedback.
Nice to Haves:
You have managed engineering teams at startups before, particularly during periods of rapid growth and organizational change.
You have experience rolling out engineering and management practices and processes—e.g., code review, performance reviews, and levels and ladders—where they didn't exist before.
You've managed teams that are across multiple offices.
You've heard of computing pioneers like Ada Lovelace, Douglas Engelbart, Alan Kay, and others—and understand why we're big fans of their work.

A Note on AI
You don’t need deep AI expertise for every role, but we do expect every Notino to be intellectually curious, drawn to tinkering and discovery, and excited to use AI as a real collaborator in their work. For some roles, AI fluency is a core requirement — when that’s the case, we'll say so explicitly in the qualifications. People who thrive here don’t treat AI as a novelty. They use it to think better, and make their work easier for others to build on.
