What you'll do.
Join Numeric as a Software Engineer, Applied AI to lead the development of customer-facing AI experiences that transform how accountants work with financial data. This role combines generalist full-stack development with cutting-edge AI technology to build trustworthy, auditable automation experiences on a modern data platform serving industry leaders like Anthropic, Notion, Brex, and OpenAI. You'll own end-to-end product outcomes, from backend infrastructure to intuitive web interfaces, while working with a high-integrity team that prioritizes deep domain expertise and first-principles thinking in the fintech space.
Responsibilities
- Lead Customer-Facing AI Feature Development: Design and implement AI-powered experiences that make financial accounting operations usable, delightful, and automated. Own the complete feature development lifecycle from user research through production launch, ensuring AI automation is trustworthy and auditable for critical business functions.
- Build Horizontal AI Foundations: Create shared infrastructure, frameworks, and abstractions that enable consistent, trustworthy AI automation across the platform. Establish patterns for prompt management, model orchestration, and response validation that other engineers can leverage.
- Design and Implement Measurement Frameworks: Establish metrics and feedback loops to measure AI product efficacy and user satisfaction. Build systems to track AI decision quality, accuracy, and business impact, then use these insights to drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborate on AI Product Strategy: Work with product, design, and domain experts to deeply understand accounting workflows and user pain points. Make strategic decisions about which AI capabilities to prioritize and how to position them for maximum user value and business impact.
- Ship Full-Stack AI Experiences: Take ownership of building complete features spanning backend AI orchestration, data processing, and frontend interfaces. Balance technical sophistication with pragmatism, shipping high-quality solutions that solve real user problems without over-engineering.
- Domain Learning and User Engagement: Invest time in understanding accounting principles, financial workflows, and domain conventions. Engage directly with customers to observe their work, identify pain points, and validate that AI solutions address genuine needs while maintaining data integrity and compliance requirements.

Technical
Full-Stack Architecture Understanding
Strong grasp of both backend system design and modern web frontend development patterns. Must be able to independently architect features that span multiple tiers and make sound technical decisions about data flow, performance, and scalability.
API Design and Integration
Proficiency in designing and consuming REST or GraphQL APIs. Experience integrating third-party AI services and building APIs that support real-time AI-powered user interactions.
Modern AI/ML Integration
Practical experience building production applications that leverage LLMs and contemporary AI models. Must understand trade-offs between different AI approaches, cost optimization, and how to handle AI system failures gracefully.

Solid foundation in shipping production software with demonstrated impact. Experience building and launching complete features from design through customer delivery.

AI/ML Product Development

The Role
We’re turning accountants into engineers, and AI is a critical piece of that story. This role will lead the development of customer-facing AI experiences that make our platform usable, delightful, automated, auditable, and trusted. You’ll be responsible for building both user-facing features and the horizontal foundations we use to bring unified, trustworthy AI automation and experiences to our users. You’ll make strategic decisions and build the loops for how we measure and improve the efficacy of our AI product experiences.
