Summary

Join OpenAI's Forward Deployed Engineering team in Madrid to lead complex end-to-end deployments of frontier AI models in production with strategic customers. You'll own discovery, technical scoping, system design, and production rollout while partnering directly with customer engineering teams and OpenAI's core platform development groups. This role requires 5+ years of full-stack engineering experience with LLM systems, customer-facing technical delivery expertise, and the ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, fast-moving environments where production adoption and measurable business impact drive success.

What you'll do

Lead End-to-End Technical Delivery: Own complete deployment lifecycle from initial prototype development through stable production rollout across multiple customer projects. Establish success metrics, manage project timelines, and ensure seamless transitions from development to production environments serving strategic customers.
Design and Build Full-Stack Systems: Architect and develop full-stack systems that integrate frontier AI models into customer workflows, spanning frontend interfaces, backend APIs, data pipelines, and model serving infrastructure. Balance technical excellence with pragmatic trade-offs to maximize customer value delivery.
Embed with Customer Teams: Work closely alongside customer engineering, product, and domain experts to deeply understand business requirements, validate technical approaches, and guide adoption strategies. Serve as the primary technical liaison ensuring customer success and extracting valuable feedback for product improvements.
Scope and Sequence Delivery Work: Define technical scope for complex deployments, create realistic delivery sequencing, identify dependencies early, and remove blockers proactively. Make informed trade-offs between scope, speed, and quality while maintaining project momentum and stakeholder confidence.
Contribute Production Code: Write production-grade code across frontend and backend systems using Python, JavaScript, or comparable technology stacks. Take direct technical ownership when progress clarity depends on hands-on coding, establishing high quality standards for the team.
Create Reusable Patterns and Tools: Codify successful deployment patterns, technical playbooks, and reusable building blocks from field experience. Document working solutions that accelerate future deployments and enable team scaling without sacrificing quality or customer outcomes.
Drive Feedback Loop with Research and Product: Translate field observations and customer deployment challenges into actionable insights for OpenAI's research and product teams. Identify model behavior gaps, capability limitations, and integration patterns that influence model and product roadmap priorities.
Maintain Team Velocity and Clarity: Provide clear communication, decisive follow-through, and calm judgment when handling ambiguous situations or high-stakes deployment challenges. Keep cross-functional teams aligned and moving forward through complex integration work with minimal friction.
