Summary

OpenAI is seeking a Protection Scientist Engineer for their Integrity and Investigations team in London, focusing on proactively identifying and mitigating AI product abuse. The role involves developing sophisticated monitoring systems, investigating critical escalations, and building robust safety mechanisms to protect AI product integrity across various platforms.

What you'll do

Abuse Monitoring Development: Scope and implement comprehensive abuse monitoring requirements for new product launches, ensuring robust safety protocols are in place from the initial deployment.
Monitoring Process Optimization: Improve existing product monitoring operations by developing automated monitoring subtasks and creating scalable detection mechanisms.
Harm Detection Systems: Prototype and mature production-ready systems for detecting, reviewing, and enforcing policies against major potential AI product abuses.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work extensively with Product, Policy, Ops, Investigative, and Engineering teams to understand key risks and develop comprehensive mitigation strategies.

Programming SkillsAdvanced proficiency in Python and SQL for technical analysis and detection
Data EngineeringExperience building core data tables, writing production-level data pipelines, and understanding machine learning principles
Machine LearningPractical experience in scaling and automating processes, particularly with language models

Education

Degree PreferenceBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related technical field

Experience

Professional ExperienceMinimum 4 years of technical analysis and detection experience, preferably in trust and safety domains
Investigative BackgroundProven track record of working closely with policy, enforcement, and engineering teams
