The role

Summary

OpenAI's Private Computing team is seeking a skilled Software Engineer to design and implement cutting-edge privacy technologies across their product ecosystem, focusing on advanced security features for ChatGPT, API, and future consumer devices using confidential computing and end-to-end encryption.

What you'll do

Privacy Infrastructure Development: Design and build core abstractions for trusted execution environments and end-to-end encryption technologies
Product Feature Implementation: Develop private inference and storage features across ChatGPT, API, and future consumer devices
System Reliability: Operate large-scale systems with high reliability, including participating in on-call rotations
Build System Enhancement: Update build systems to increase trust and verifiability of software infrastructure
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product, engineering, security, safety, policy, and legal teams to drive privacy initiatives

Cloud TechnologiesExtensive experience with Kubernetes and cloud orchestration systems
Security TechnologiesProven expertise in confidential computing and encryption technologies in production environments
System DesignStrong skills in designing scalable, reliable, and secure software systems

Education

Computer ScienceBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field preferred

Experience

Professional Software EngineeringMinimum of 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
Privacy TechnologiesDemonstrated experience building and scaling confidential computing or encryption technologies
