Summary

As a Technical Deployment Lead at OpenAI's Forward Deployed Engineering team based in Dublin, you will define how complex AI systems are delivered to customers, translating business outcomes into technical delivery plans and owning end-to-end execution across engineering teams and customer partnerships. This high-autonomy, high-trust role combines deep technical project management expertise with customer engagement, requiring 7+ years of customer-facing technical delivery leadership with demonstrated success shipping AI/LLM systems at scale.

What you'll do

Own Technical Delivery Planning: Define and manage the complete technical delivery plan for multiple interdependent workstreams. Translate business objectives into detailed technical roadmaps with clear milestones, dependency mapping, and acceptance criteria. Ensure alignment across engineering teams, researchers, and customer engineers to support successful product deployments.
Execute Day-to-Day Engineering Operations: Track and drive delivery progress across OpenAI Forward Deployed Engineering teams and customer engineering teams. Maintain unblocked momentum through proactive dependency management and real-time sequencing decisions. Make high-impact trade-offs on scope and priority to protect the critical path while maintaining deployment quality standards.
Lead Customer Engagement and Production Deployment: Embed directly with customer teams to understand workflows, map integration requirements, and shape technical solutions. Lead production deployment planning, execution, and launch readiness activities. Oversee adoption strategy, onboarding workflows, and change management to ensure customers successfully realize value from deployed systems.
Coordinate Cross-Functional Product Development: Partner with Product and Research teams to ensure platform components, AI model improvements, and research workstreams align with and land on time to support deployment timelines. Translate field requirements into product priorities and feedback loops that improve core capabilities.
Extract and Codify Solution Patterns: Document reusable technical patterns, architectural approaches, and evaluation methodologies across customer deployments. Package field insights, customer learnings, and solution designs to improve product offerings, enhance model capabilities, and reduce time-to-value for future deployments.
Measure Impact and Drive Business Value: Define impact hypotheses, establish baseline metrics, and set customer-specific KPIs before deployment. Conduct pre-deployment assessments and post-deployment measurement programs. Report ROI and business outcomes to executive sponsors and customer leadership to demonstrate measurable value realization.
Manage High-Ambiguity Problem Solving: Simplify complex and dynamic technical challenges in ambiguous environments. Move from problem definition through architectural sketching to shipped production systems. Navigate customer constraints, technical feasibility, and business requirements simultaneously under time pressure.
Lead Strategic Business Communication: Serve as translator between technical teams and business leadership. Make complex technical trade-offs, architectural decisions, and implementation constraints understandable to non-technical executive sponsors. Convert strategic business goals into executable technical plans.
