What you'll do.
Forward Deployed Engineer at Replit is a deeply technical, hands-on role partnering directly with enterprise customers to architect, build, and deploy AI-powered applications and integrations on Replit's agentic software creation platform. This position combines full-stack engineering expertise with customer-facing collaboration, requiring 5+ years of production software development experience, proficiency with LLM applications, and proven ability to navigate complex enterprise environments. Success demands technical depth across cloud infrastructure, enterprise integration patterns, and the communication skills to translate customer business requirements into pragmatic technical solutions that drive production adoption.
Responsibilities
- Embed with Strategic Customers: Work directly alongside enterprise customers as a trusted technical partner, embedding within their organizations to understand business objectives, technical constraints, and organizational structure. Serve as the primary technical representative for complex implementations, building deep domain knowledge of each customer's infrastructure, goals, and challenges.
- Design & Build Production Applications: Lead the design and implementation of high-impact AI-powered applications and workflows on Replit, taking projects from initial conception and prototyping through production deployment. Write production-grade code, implement security best practices, and ensure applications meet enterprise reliability standards.
- Architect Enterprise-Scale Solutions: Design secure, scalable, and maintainable architectures that integrate Replit with customers' existing technology stacks. Create technical designs that account for data governance, security compliance, performance requirements, and operational complexity inherent in large organizations.
- Execute Complex Integrations: Build integrations connecting Replit with customers' enterprise systems, including SSO and identity providers, data warehouses and internal data sources, existing APIs and SaaS platforms, and internal developer infrastructure. Navigate authentication, authorization, and data sharing challenges unique to enterprise environments.
- Own Technical Deployments End-to-End: Serve as the technical owner throughout implementation, managing deployment planning, coordinating with customer infrastructure teams, identifying and resolving technical blockers, debugging production issues, and driving projects to successful adoption. Maintain accountability for meeting timelines and quality standards.
- Bridge Customer Insights & Product Development: Synthesize learnings from customer interactions into actionable insights for Replit's product and engineering teams. Identify recurring technical constraints, unmet customer needs, and feature gaps. Translate field patterns into documented playbooks, templates, and product requirements that improve the platform.
- Collaborate Across Functional Teams: Work closely with Replit's Product, Design, Engineering, and Sales teams to deliver cohesive customer experiences. Provide field feedback that influences product roadmap decisions, escalate technical blockers to internal engineering, and ensure customer needs inform platform development priorities.
- Iterate Based on Real-World Feedback: Demonstrate agility by shipping incremental improvements, gathering customer feedback, and adjusting implementations based on actual usage patterns. Monitor application performance, user adoption metrics, and technical health, optimizing based on data-driven insights.
Qualifications

Technical
Programming Language Proficiency
Strong proficiency in at least one primary programming language (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, Go, Rust, or similar), with the ability to quickly learn and work across additional languages as required by customer projects.
Cloud Infrastructure Knowledge
Solid understanding of modern cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), including compute services, managed databases, serverless computing, networking, and deployment strategies.
API Design & Integration
Deep familiarity with REST APIs, GraphQL, webhook patterns, and enterprise integration patterns. Experience designing and consuming APIs, managing authentication/authorization, and handling API versioning.
Database & Data Systems
Working knowledge of relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL), NoSQL databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB), data warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift), and experience with query optimization and data pipeline design.
Enterprise Authentication & Security
Understanding of enterprise security patterns including OAuth/OIDC, SAML, multi-factor authentication (MFA), and experience implementing or integrating with identity providers and SSO systems.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Related Field
Preferred background in computer science, software engineering, mathematics, physics, or equivalent practical experience demonstrating strong foundational computer science knowledge.
Experience
5+ Years Production Software Engineering
Minimum five years of professional experience building and deploying production software systems. This should include full project lifecycle experience from architecture and development through deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
LLM Application Development in Production
Hands-on experience implementing Large Language Model applications in production environments, specifically including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), function calling, tool use patterns, and evaluation frameworks for AI system quality.
Complex Technical System Ownership
Direct experience designing, architecting, implementing, and taking ownership of complex technical systems through their full lifecycle, including handling architectural decisions, performance optimization, and production support.
Direct Customer or Stakeholder Engagement
Proven track record working directly with customers, external partners, or cross-functional engineering teams. Experience translating business needs into technical requirements and maintaining alignment throughout implementation.

Enterprise Systems Architecture

About the role:
Join our FDE team and work directly with some of the world's largest organizations to turn their most ambitious ideas into production applications on Replit. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll partner closely with customers to understand their technical and business needs, architect solutions, and build the integrations and applications required to deploy Replit successfully within complex enterprise environments.
This is a deeply technical and hands-on role. You won’t just advise customers on what to build—you’ll build alongside them. You’ll take applications from initial idea and prototype through deployment and production, navigate complex enterprise environments, and solve the technical challenges that emerge when AI-powered software development meets real-world infrastructure, data, security, and organizational constraints.
You will:
Build with Customers: Embed with strategic enterprise customers to design and build high-impact applications and AI-powered workflows on Replit, taking projects from initial concept through production deployment.
Architect Enterprise Solutions: Design secure, scalable architectures that connect Replit with customers’ existing systems, data, APIs, identity providers, and infrastructure.

Required skills and experience:
5+ years of software engineering experience building and deploying production software
Strong programming skills and the ability to quickly understand and work across unfamiliar codebases, APIs, and technical environments
Hands-on work with LLM applications in production: retrieval, tool calls, and evals.
Experience designing and owning complex technical systems from architecture through production
Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in ambiguous environments and independently drive technical projects to completion
Strong technical communication skills and experience working directly with customers, partners, or cross-functional stakeholders
Ability to translate business requirements and customer problems into pragmatic technical solutions
