The role

Summary

Sentry is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for its Events Analytics Platform (EAP) team, focusing on scaling event data infrastructure and improving data visibility. The ideal candidate will lead efforts to enhance search capabilities, optimize data storage systems, and drive technical innovation in handling petabyte-scale event data with sub-second latency.

What you'll do

Infrastructure Expansion: Expand Events Analytics Platform's ability to deliver data at world-class speed and reliability
System Architecture: Architect and automate services and systems to scale reliably under growing demand
Technical Leadership: Lead design and discussions around team deliverables, and help shape Infrastructure's technical direction
Code Quality: Maintain and grow team's code quality initiatives through regular code reviews and contributing to design decisions
Performance Optimization: Improve maintainability and developer experience of EAP codebases

What we look for

Technical

Backend EngineeringMinimum of 4+ years of experience in backend or infrastructure engineering
Distributed SystemsStrong knowledge of replicated and/or distributed data storage systems
Programming ProficiencyProficiency in Python or comparable language

Education

Computer ScienceBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field preferred

Experience

Storage SystemsExperience with disk-driven storage systems like PostgreSQL and ClickHouse
Memory StorageFamiliarity with memory-driven storage systems such as Memcached and Redis
Streaming PlatformsExperience with streaming platforms like Kafka and RabbitMQ

Required skills

Distributed ComputingAdvanced understanding of distributed system design and scalability
PythonStrong Python programming skills with ability to write high-performance, scalable code
Data InfrastructureExperience designing and managing large-scale data storage and query systems

ClickHouseDeep understanding of ClickHouse and columnar database technologies
Performance OptimizationProven track record of improving system performance and reducing latency
