The role

Summary

Snowflake is seeking an Applied Performance Engineer to join their strategic APG team, responsible for solving complex customer performance issues, conducting competitive benchmarking, and driving product improvements. This role requires expertise in data engineering, SQL performance analysis, and cloud platforms to support enterprise deals and optimize the Snowflake data platform.

What you'll do

Snowflake Architecture Expertise: Develop deep expertise in Snowflake architecture, query processing, workload profiling, and data engineering tools
Competitive Analysis: Become an expert in competitor solutions and products for analytics and data engineering
Benchmark Development: Define, automate, execute, and publish competitive benchmarks against industry competitors
Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner closely with engineering teams to deliver results and guidance on performance gaps, challenges, advantages, and disadvantages
Product Strategy Input: Collaborate with Product Management and Engineering to continuously improve Snowflake's products and ecosystem roadmaps
Customer Performance Support: Help resolve challenging customer performance issues and support major enterprise deals
Technical Innovation: Pioneer Snowflake deployments with newest technology and drive cutting-edge innovation initiatives

What we look for

Technical

Database SystemsMinimum 2 years experience in technical roles delivering Database, Data Warehouse, or Data Engineering implementations
Cloud PlatformsBroad understanding of cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, and OpenStack
Data Engineering StackDeep understanding of complete data engineering and analytics stack from ingestion to BI tools
SQL PerformanceStrong SQL performance analysis experience and optimization skills
Programming SkillsCoding/programming experience in process automation with Python and/or Java
Performance AnalysisAbility to use tools to identify and articulate performance issues

Education

Degree PreferredUniversity degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or related fields, or equivalent experience

Competitor ExperienceProven track record of experience with Snowflake competitors

Benchmark InitiativesExperience with benchmark initiatives and competitive analysis

Python/JavaStrong programming skills in Python and/or Java for automation and analysis
Cloud InfrastructureExperience with large-scale infrastructure-as-a-service platforms
Data WarehousingDeep technical expertise in databases, data warehouses, and data processing
Communication SkillsAbility to communicate technical concepts to both technical and executive audiences
Performance BenchmarkingExperience in defining, executing, and analyzing performance benchmarks
