Role

What you'll do.

Principal Software Engineer responsible for architecting and building UiPath's cloud-based Document Understanding platform. This role focuses on developing scalable machine learning infrastructure that enables customers to train, deploy, and consume ML models for intelligent document processing, including splitting, classification, and data extraction. You'll drive technical excellence across distributed teams while maintaining exceptional code quality and platform reliability in a fast-paced, automation-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and Build Scalable Cloud Solutions: Design and develop robust, production-grade components for UiPath's Document Understanding platform that handle enterprise-scale machine learning model training, deployment, and consumption across diverse cloud environments.
  • Identify and Resolve Performance Bottlenecks: Conduct systematic analysis to identify bugs and performance bottlenecks in the document processing pipeline, then devise and implement efficient solutions that maintain platform reliability and throughput at scale.
  • Engineer Performance-Optimized Solutions: Apply advanced problem-solving and algorithmic expertise to develop high-performance code that prioritizes efficiency for resource-intensive operations like OCR processing, document classification, and data extraction workflows.
  • Lead Cross-Functional Technical Innovation: Collaborate with geographically distributed engineering teams across multiple locations to innovate and architect best-in-class document understanding solutions that set industry standards for quality and capability.
  • Establish and Maintain Code Excellence Standards: Champion code quality through comprehensive testing strategies including unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end automation; establish best practices for code organization, documentation, and architectural patterns within the team.
  • Drive Technical Leadership and Mentorship: Provide technical direction and mentor junior engineers on system design principles, architectural patterns, and engineering best practices specific to cloud-native, ML-powered document processing systems.

  • System-Level Programming Languages

    Expert proficiency in one or more systems programming languages including C#, Java, Python, or Rust with demonstrated ability to learn and adopt new languages as needed for specific technical challenges.

  • Cloud Platform Architecture and Implementation

    Extensive hands-on experience architecting and deploying applications on Azure, AWS, or GCP, with deep understanding of managed services, scalability patterns, networking, and cloud-native design principles.

  • Container Orchestration and Containerization

    Production-level expertise with Docker containerization and Kubernetes orchestration, including resource management, deployment strategies, scaling configurations, and troubleshooting in enterprise environments.

  • Object-Oriented Design and Architectural Patterns

    Advanced knowledge of OOP principles, SOLID design patterns, microservices architecture, and enterprise architecture patterns necessary for building large-scale, maintainable systems.

  • Concurrent and Asynchronous Programming

    Deep expertise in multithreading, synchronization primitives, asynchronous programming models, and cloud-native concurrency patterns to handle high-throughput, low-latency document processing scenarios.

  • Data Structures and Algorithms

    Strong grasp of fundamental and advanced data structures, algorithmic analysis, and optimization techniques essential for designing efficient document processing pipelines and machine learning model serving infrastructure.

  • Modern Software Engineering Practices

    Proficiency in agile development methodologies, CI/CD pipeline design and implementation, infrastructure-as-code, DevOps practices, and automated testing frameworks.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Related Field

    Formal education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related discipline providing foundational knowledge in algorithms, data structures, and software design principles.

Experience

  • 5+ Years of Commercial Software Engineering

    Proven track record of architecting, developing, and delivering world-class, large-scale commercial applications and services in enterprise environments, demonstrating sustained technical excellence and project delivery.

  • Distributed Systems and Team Collaboration

    Demonstrated experience working effectively with globally distributed engineering teams across time zones, managing communication complexity, and coordinating technical efforts at scale.

  • Cloud Ecosystem Implementation

    Substantial production experience building, deploying, and scaling applications within cloud ecosystems, with understanding of cloud-specific challenges around data transfer, latency, and cost optimization.

You'll be part of our Document Understanding platform, creating and improving features that enable users to train custom models with their own datasets and leverage them to split, classify and extract meaningful data from documents. Furthermore, your work will directly impact the scalability, quality, performance, and reliability of our platform, ensuring seamless integration across diverse environments and products

What you'll bring to the team

  • Proven track record (5+ years experience) of architecting and engineering
    world-class, large scale commercial applications and services.

  • Proficiency in one or more system level programming languages (C#, Java,
    Python, Rust etc.) and a willingness to learn new ones

  • Experience working with cloud ecosystems such as Azure, AWS or GCP

  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes or other containerization technologies.

  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming and architectural
    design patterns.

  • Good grasp of multithreading, synchronization, asynchronous, cloud
    programming.

  • Deep understanding of data structures & algorithms.
    Familiar with modern engineering practices, including agile development,
    CI/CD and DevOps.

  • Ability work with globally distributed teams.

  • Effective teamwork, collaboration and communication skills

 

Nice to have:

  • Programming experience with .NET framework, C#

  • Familiarity working with documents and using OCR technologies

  • Familiarity with Windows Presentation Framework
