Navigate industry paradigm shifts including AI-native engineering at scale, serverless architectures, and advanced reliability patterns. Ensure architectural decisions align with business strategy and support both immediate product velocity and decade-long scalability requirements.
  • Establish AI-Native and Agentic Development Foundations: Define technical foundations, safety guardrails, and architectural patterns required to support safe agentic development and autonomous operations across Xero. Establish governance frameworks, monitoring, and observability standards for AI-native engineering workflows. Build abstractions and platform capabilities that enable product teams to leverage agentic tooling while maintaining system reliability, data integrity, and compliance requirements.
  • Lead Cross-Functional Technical Leadership and Stakeholder Alignment: Operate at the highest level of technical authority, reporting to the Senior Vice President of Engineering for Product Platforms. Align senior stakeholders, C-suite executives, and VP-level leadership around bold architectural bets using clear technical vision and strategic diplomacy. Collaborate with domain architects, product leaders, and cross-functional teams to ensure unified platform standards while maintaining developer autonomy. Build consensus around complex technical trade-offs and long-term investment decisions.
  • Define Engineering Practices and Developer Experience Standards: Establish company-wide engineering practices, coding standards, and architectural patterns that maximize developer autonomy while maintaining systemic guardrails. Design high-speed feedback loops, transparent communication channels, and collective ownership models. Create first-class APIs, shared libraries, and platform capabilities that abstract deep domain complexity for internal engineering customers while upholding strict data integrity and security standards.
  • Drive Platform Capabilities and API Excellence: Champion the design and implementation of world-class APIs (REST/GraphQL), microservices architecture, and platform abstractions that empower product teams to move quickly and independently. Establish patterns for distributed systems, eventual consistency, and fault tolerance. Build shared infrastructure that enables teams to deliver trusted experiences for small businesses globally while reducing toil and accelerating feature delivery.
