Summary

Senior Software Engineer at Xero leading high-impact, customer-focused software solutions for practice tools. This role involves navigating complex problems with deep technical expertise, driving cross-team initiatives, and leveraging AI to build new capabilities across a modern tech stack including C#, ASP.NET Core, React, and AWS. What you'll do

Full-Stack Feature Development: Design, implement, and deliver full-stack features using React, Redux, C#, ASP.NET Core, and SQL Server, ensuring code quality through test-driven development practices and adherence to distributed system patterns on AWS infrastructure.

System Architecture and Refactoring: Lead architectural decisions and execute refactoring initiatives to modernize complex monolithic systems, balancing legacy WebForms migration with contemporary distributed system architectures while maintaining system reliability and performance.

AI-Assisted Development Innovation: Research, prototype, and implement AI-assisted development tools to reimagine engineering workflows, treating artificial intelligence as a strategic tool to redesign processes, create automated agents, and deliver measurable business impact for customers and internal teams.

Cross-Team Leadership and Alignment: Drive cross-functional initiatives, build alignment across engineering disciplines, influence technical direction through data-informed decision-making, and communicate architectural recommendations to stakeholders at all organizational levels.

On-Call Support and Incident Response: Participate in on-call rosters ensuring 24/7 product support and reliability, respond to production incidents with operational insight, implement remediation strategies, and conduct post-incident reviews to drive continuous improvement.

SDK and Library Development: Build and maintain robust SDKs and internal libraries that enable seamless integration across teams, documenting APIs comprehensively and ensuring developer experience excellence for downstream consumers.

Mentoring and Technical Coaching: Provide inclusive mentoring and coaching to junior and mid-level engineers, challenge team assumptions constructively to drive better system design, and foster a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence.

CI/CD and Quality Assurance: Champion test-driven development principles, implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using modern automated tooling, define quality gates, and establish best practices for deployment automation and infrastructure-as-code patterns.

Education

Experience

Senior Software Engineering BackgroundMinimum 7-10 years of professional software development experience with at least 3+ years in senior-level roles involving architectural decision-making, technical leadership, and cross-team influence.

Full-Stack Development Track RecordDemonstrated experience delivering end-to-end full-stack features from database schema design through frontend implementation, with proven ability to own projects from conception to production deployment.

Distributed Systems and Cloud Experience3+ years of hands-on experience architecting, implementing, and refactoring distributed systems in cloud environments, with understanding of microservices patterns, scalability challenges, and reliability engineering.

Production AI ImplementationProven track record of building and deploying AI-powered solutions to production that delivered measurable business value, including experience with large language models, automated workflows, or intelligent agent development.
