Role
What you'll do.
Senior Network Engineer responsible for designing and maintaining Airwallex's global network infrastructure across multiple cloud regions and data centers. This role involves architecting highly available production networks, managing multi-vendor networking hardware (Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto), and leading incident response for a fintech platform serving 250,000+ businesses. You'll collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams while establishing new network foundations and scaling infrastructure to support global financial operations.
Responsibilities
- Design and Deploy Global Network Infrastructure: Build and maintain highly available production network infrastructure including LAN, WAN, VPN, and cloud connectivity across multiple global data centers and cloud regions. Design the corporate network foundations while aligning network architecture to regional demands and business growth trajectories.
- Manage Multi-Vendor Networking Hardware: Configure, deploy, and troubleshoot complex networking devices across mixed vendors (Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, Aruba) globally, including on-premises gateways, routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers. Maintain command-line proficiency with vendor-specific operating systems (JunOS, IOS) and manage international leased lines and domestic internet connections.
- Lead Incident Response and Escalation: Act as first-responder and escalation point for critical network issues in production environments. Run incidents to completion, conduct after-action reviews, and participate in global on-call rotation to ensure infrastructure availability for financial operations serving 250,000+ businesses.
- Collaborate on Infrastructure Integration: Work cross-functionally with CorpSec, ProdSec, Engineering, Product, IT Engineering, and Workplace teams to integrate network solutions, support business initiatives, and build core networking understanding across IT operations and support teams.
- Infrastructure as Code and Automation: Implement declarative infrastructure tools such as Terraform and Git CI/CD pipelines for network configuration management. Develop event-driven automation using scripting languages (Python, Bash) to enhance operational efficiency and reduce manual configuration overhead.
- Network Documentation and Change Management: Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation including architectural diagrams, device configurations, operational procedures, and runbooks. Implement strong change control processes and ensure compliance with security and operational standards.
- Evaluate and Recommend Network Technologies: Research, evaluate, and recommend emerging networking technologies and solutions to stay ahead of business growth demands. Assess cloud infrastructure options (AWS, GCP, Azure, Aliyun) and connectivity solutions to optimize cost, performance, and reliability.
- Participate in Infrastructure Planning: Help design team structure and size for future infrastructure scaling. Participate in pre-scheduled network upgrades and strategic initiatives with flexible scheduling as needed to minimize business disruption and ensure continuity of global financial services.

CCNP/JNCIP Level Networking Expertise
Demonstrate strong foundational networking knowledge equivalent to Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or Juniper Networks Certified Internet Professional (JNCIP) level, showing advanced understanding of routing protocols, network architecture, and troubleshooting methodologies.
Multi-Vendor Networking Environment
Proven experience in multi-vendor networking environments with hands-on configuration expertise across Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, Aruba, and other enterprise networking platforms. Demonstrated ability to manage heterogeneous networks at global scale within multinational organizations.
Scripting and Automation

Infrastructure as Code (IaC)

Cloud Platforms (AWS/GCP)

BGP Routing and Route Filtering
Strong understanding of Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) fundamentals, route filtering principles, path selection, and multi-path routing scenarios. Ability to design and troubleshoot complex routing policies in enterprise and cloud environments.
Network Hardware Configuration

VPN and Security Protocols

Linux Command-Line Administration

Education
Bachelor's Degree (Preferred)

Professional Certifications

What you’ll do
Build the foundations of our new corporate network, and help design the team structure and size for the future
Maintain, design and deploy Airwallex's global cloud footprint, aligning network requirements to regional demands.
Design, implement, and maintain highly available and secure production network infrastructure (LAN, WAN, VPN, Cloud) across multiple global data centres and cloud regions.
Configure on-prem gateway/router/networking hardware globally, including mixed vendors in some locations
Manage global connectivity over international leased lines and domestic internet connections
Own the configuration and troubleshooting of complex network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and cloud environments.
Act as a first-responder or escalation point for complex network issues, running an incident through to completion and after-action reports.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., CorpSec, ProdSec, Engineering, Product, IT Engineering, Workplace, etc.) to integrate network solutions and support business initiatives.
Work with IT Engineering, IT Support on troubleshooting network issues on endpoints, including basic IT operations support, building a core networking understanding among the team

Minimum qualifications: Must haves
CCNP / JNCIP level experience showing a strong networking foundation
Demonstrated experience in a multi/mixed networking vendor environment (Juniper, Palo Alto, Cisco, Aruba, etc.) in a global company
Experience and understanding of scripting languages eg: python, bash
Event driven automation experience a plus
Comfortable with declarative infrastructure tools, eg: terraform, git ci/cd pipelines
Strong documentation habits and understanding of change control processes
AWS and/or GCP experience, solid experience with both is a plus.
