What you'll do.
As a Forward Deployed Engineer specializing in Infrastructure at Cohere, you'll architect and lead end-to-end deployments of North, our cutting-edge AI workspace platform, in private cloud and on-premises environments for enterprise clients including RBC, Dell, and LG CNS. This role bridges Cohere's core product and customer engineering teams, requiring expertise in Kubernetes orchestration, cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP), and DevOps practices to securely integrate agentic AI into critical sectors such as finance, healthcare, and telecommunications.
Responsibilities
- End-to-End Deployment Leadership: Lead comprehensive deployment of North platform in private cloud and on-premises environments, managing full lifecycle from planning, infrastructure assessment, and configuration through rigorous testing and production rollout with minimal downtime.
- Enterprise Infrastructure Assessment: Partner closely with enterprise IT teams to evaluate existing infrastructure, identify security requirements, assess data management practices, and design deployment strategies that align with client-specific compliance and data privacy standards including HIPAA, GDPR, and industry regulations.
- Kubernetes Cluster Administration: Design, deploy, and maintain large-scale production Kubernetes clusters with advanced configuration using Helm charts, managing node orchestration, resource allocation, and ensuring high availability and performance across hybrid cloud environments.
- DevOps and CI/CD Pipeline Development: Implement and optimize continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines using Git version control, Docker containerization, and GitOps methodologies to enable rapid, reliable, and repeatable deployments while maintaining code quality and security standards.
- Rapid Experimentation and Problem Resolution: Execute with high velocity and exceptional quality in fast-paced environments, troubleshooting complex deployment-related technical issues, providing timely solutions to resolve infrastructure problems, and minimizing customer downtime through proactive monitoring and incident response.
- Customer-Facing Technical Partnership: Serve as primary technical liaison between Cohere and customers during deployments, engaging stakeholders across engineering, IT operations, and security teams, communicating complex infrastructure concepts clearly, and exceeding customer expectations through tailored solutions and exceptional service delivery.
- Field Deployment and Site Operations: Travel to customer premises 20-40% of the time to conduct on-site infrastructure assessments, oversee deployment implementations, provide hands-on technical support, and ensure successful integration of North platform within customer environments.

Technical
Kubernetes Administration at Scale
Proven production experience administering large-scale Kubernetes clusters with deep expertise in Helm package management, cluster architecture, resource management, network policies, storage orchestration, and troubleshooting complex cluster issues in high-availability production environments.
Cloud Infrastructure Platforms
Strong expertise across major cloud providers including AWS (EC2, VPC, ECS, IAM), Azure (Virtual Machines, App Services, AKS), and GCP (Compute Engine, Cloud Run, GKE) with hands-on experience designing and deploying scalable, secure, and cost-optimized infrastructure solutions.
DevOps and CI/CD Practices
Comprehensive understanding of DevOps methodologies, experience implementing end-to-end CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or ArgoCD, proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Helm), and Git-based version control workflows.
Enterprise Private Cloud and Hybrid Cloud Deployments
Demonstrated experience deploying and managing enterprise software in private cloud environments, hybrid architectures, on-premises data centers, and distributed multi-cloud setups with expertise in network connectivity, security, and compliance considerations.
Cloud Networking and Virtualization
Solid understanding of networking fundamentals including VPC configuration, load balancing, DNS, VPN, and firewall management; experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, or KVM; and ability to troubleshoot complex network connectivity issues in cloud environments.
Security and Compliance Implementation
Knowledge of enterprise security practices, data privacy standards (GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2), network security hardening, identity and access management (IAM), encryption protocols, and ability to design deployments that maintain security posture while meeting regulatory requirements.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Related Field
Formal education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience demonstrating strong foundational knowledge in computer systems, networking, and software development principles.

Enterprise Software Deployment
3-5+ years of experience deploying, managing, and troubleshooting enterprise-grade software platforms in production environments with direct exposure to customer-facing deployments and post-deployment support operations.
Kubernetes Production Operations
2-3+ years of hands-on experience managing production Kubernetes clusters at scale, including day-two operations, cluster upgrades, performance optimization, and incident response in mission-critical environments.
Customer-Centric Technical Engagement
Direct experience working with enterprise customers on infrastructure projects, conducting technical assessments, communicating complex technical solutions to non-technical stakeholders, and managing customer expectations through successful project delivery.
DevOps and Infrastructure Automation

In this role, you will:
Lead end-to-end deployment of North in private cloud and on-premises environments, including planning, configuration, testing, and rollout.
Partner with enterprise IT teams to assess infrastructure, security requirements, and data management practices.
