What you'll do.

Join Cohere as a Senior Full-Stack Engineer to build and ship features for North, our cutting-edge AI workspace platform designed for secure enterprise AI deployment. This role combines full-stack development expertise with cutting-edge AI/ML capabilities, requiring proficiency in Python and React to develop autonomous agents, optimize performance in resource-constrained environments, and collaborate with researchers to productionize state-of-the-art models while maintaining stringent security and privacy standards.

Responsibilities

  • Feature Development and Shipping: Design, develop, and ship production-grade features for North, the enterprise AI workspace platform, ensuring high code quality and adherence to security-first principles while meeting fast-paced development cycles.
  • Autonomous Agent Development: Build and optimize autonomous agents capable of securely interfacing with sensitive enterprise data, implementing robust error handling and maintaining data privacy throughout the agentic workflow.
  • Performance Optimization: Write minimal, efficient code optimized for low-resource environments with stringent deployment constraints, ensuring applications maintain high performance across diverse infrastructure scenarios.
  • Security-First Implementation: Implement custom solutions prioritizing security and privacy requirements, potentially re-inventing industry-standard approaches when necessary to meet Cohere's security-first philosophy rather than relying on popular third-party libraries.
  • Model Productionization: Collaborate with machine learning researchers to productionize state-of-the-art foundation models and techniques, bridging the gap between research prototypes and production systems serving millions of users.
  • Full-Stack Code Ownership: Take ownership of codebases across the full technology stack, troubleshoot issues across multiple systems, and maintain code quality standards in both backend and frontend components.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with security teams, product managers, and other engineers to ensure deployments meet enterprise compliance standards and deliver exceptional user experiences.

  • Full-Stack Production Development

    Extensive shipping experience with production-grade full-stack applications, with demonstrated ability to write clean, maintainable code across both backend and frontend systems at scale.

  • Python Expertise

    Deep proficiency in Python for backend development, including experience building performant server-side applications, APIs, and distributed systems that handle enterprise workloads.

  • React Proficiency

    Strong experience building modern, responsive frontend applications with React, including component architecture, state management, and client-side optimization for performance-critical applications.

  • RAG and Agentic Systems

    Hands-on experience building and deploying retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and agentic AI applications that operate at scale, with understanding of agent frameworks, tool integrations, and LLM interactions.

  • Performance Engineering

    Demonstrated ability to optimize applications for performance, including profiling, benchmarking, and implementing solutions that work efficiently in resource-constrained environments.

  • Security and Privacy Implementation

    Understanding of security best practices, data privacy requirements, and ability to implement custom solutions that prioritize security over convenience or industry-standard approaches.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Related Field

    Formal education in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent field providing foundational knowledge in algorithms, data structures, and system design principles.

  • Equivalent Professional Experience

    Extensive professional software engineering experience demonstrating the depth of knowledge typically acquired through formal computer science education, with proven track record of shipping production systems.

  • Large-Scale Distributed Systems

    Experience working with enterprise-grade systems that handle millions of users, including exposure to deployment mechanisms, monitoring, and operational excellence in production environments.

  • Fast-Paced Environment Execution
