The role

Summary

Confluent is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build mission-critical backend services for their cloud-native data streaming platform. The role focuses on designing, developing, and operationalizing high-performance distributed systems that power Confluent Cloud's multi-tenant, multi-cloud infrastructure.

What you'll do

Backend Service Development: Build mission-critical backend services that deliver high-value solutions for customers, focusing on architecture, design, development, and operationalization of scalable and resilient services

Data Integration: Design, develop, and maintain Kafka Connect connectors for integrating with various databases and data warehouses like PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Snowflake

Change Data Capture: Implement Change Data Capture (CDC) connectors using open-source technologies like Debezium and Kafka Connect

System Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve technical issues within a complex technical stack involving microservices, containers, and virtualization

Operational Excellence: Ensure operational readiness of services, meet availability and performance SLA commitments, and continuously improve operational processes

Programming LanguagesProficiency in major programming languages such as Java, Go, C/C++, or Python

Distributed SystemsExperience in configuring and deploying distributed systems and microservices using Kubernetes, Helm, and related technologies

System ArchitectureStrong understanding of cloud-native, large-scale distributed systems design and implementation

Education

Academic QualificationBS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience

Experience

Industry ExperienceMinimum 8+ years of industry experience designing, building, scaling, and supporting backend systems in production

Operational ExcellenceProven track record of delivering large-scale, highly available, low-latency, high-quality systems
