Confluent is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a critical metrics infrastructure team, focusing on scaling real-time analytics platforms, driving API evolution, and ensuring exceptional operational excellence. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise with strong leadership skills to transform how data moves and drives business intelligence.

What you'll do

Strategic Leadership: Drive technical strategy for scaling metrics infrastructure to handle 10x data volume over two years

Product Evolution: Lead roadmap development for new metrics datasets, query capabilities, and integration patterns

Operational Excellence: Ensure 99.99%+ system availability, sub-second query performance, and robust incident response

Team Development: Hire, coach, and nurture high-performance engineering talent through clear expectations and career development

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Telemetry, Cloud Infrastructure, and Product teams to deliver comprehensive observability solutions

What we look for

Technical

Distributed SystemsSolid understanding of distributed systems design, replication protocols, and high-availability production operations

Cloud PlatformsExperience operating complex architectures across large public clouds (AWS, GCP, Azure) or private cloud-native infrastructures

Event StreamingDeep familiarity with Kafka or similar high-scale event streaming platforms in cloud environments

Education

Advanced DegreeBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field preferred

Experience

Total Software ExperienceMinimum 14 years of overall software development and engineering experience

Management ExperienceMinimum 4 years of engineering management experience leading productive, high-performing teams
