Summary

Modal is seeking a hands-on Security Engineer to fortify their AI infrastructure platform, focusing on building, operating, and securing low-level systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in cloud security, system design, and comprehensive security practices, working closely with engineering teams to enhance Modal's security posture across multiple domains.

What you'll do

Security Infrastructure Development: Design and implement robust security controls and tooling for Modal's cloud infrastructure and developer platform
Cross-Domain Security Management: Lead security initiatives across AppSec, CloudSec, Detection and Response, and Compliance domains
Threat Modeling and Vulnerability Management: Conduct comprehensive threat modeling, secure design reviews, code and infrastructure reviews, and manage vulnerability lifecycle
Cloud Security Engineering: Implement and maintain advanced cloud security practices including IAM design, VPC networking, container security, and Kubernetes hardening
Collaborative Security Integration: Partner closely with engineering teams to develop and implement security solutions that maintain high developer productivity

Programming ProficiencyAdvanced coding skills in Python, Go, or Rust with production system experience
Cloud Security ExpertiseComprehensive understanding of modern cloud security principles, including IAM, VPC networking, container security, and Kubernetes
Systems and NetworkingStrong fundamental knowledge of systems architecture, network security, and infrastructure design

Education

Cybersecurity EducationBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or related technical field preferred

Experience

Security Domain Expertise5+ years of experience building and operating security controls in production systems, preferably in cloud/SaaS or developer platforms
Multi-Domain Security ProficiencyIn-depth expertise in at least two security domains such as AppSec, CloudSec, Detection & Response, Identity Management, GRC, or Offensive Security
