Role

What you'll do.

OpenAI's Deployment Lead for Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) Platform shapes production solutions by partnering with customers to validate, launch, and scale innovative use cases. This foundational leadership role combines product judgment with hands-on technical deployment expertise, requiring someone to navigate significant ambiguity while defining solutions that drive measurable customer and business impact. The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of product leadership or customer-facing technical delivery, proven ability to shepherd technical products through discovery to production adoption, and strong cross-functional influence across engineering, product, GTM, and enterprise customers.

Responsibilities

  • Define and Scope Solutions: Identify valuable customer problems and define clear solution architecture, translating customer workflows and deployment evidence into actionable product priorities. Use customer learnings and market evidence to narrow scope, set proof points, and recommend strategic investment areas for maximum business impact.
  • Lead Customer Validation and Pilot Programs: Select design partners strategically and conduct pilots to validate technical feasibility, measure value creation, and assess repeatability across diverse enterprise environments. Establish quality benchmarks and comprehensive launch criteria before broader rollout.
  • Drive Cross-Functional Alignment and Roadmap Planning: Partner with Forward Deployed Engineers, Product teams, and Go-to-Market stakeholders to align execution roadmaps, resolve shared dependencies, balance customer commitments with reusable platform capabilities, and navigate technical trade-offs in enterprise deployment scenarios.
  • Operationalize and Scale Delivery: Enable field teams and partners to independently scope, sell, and deliver solutions by creating comprehensive playbooks, documentation, and support models. Establish repeatable processes that allow the solution to scale without continuous dependency on the originating team.
  • Build and Evolve New Functions: Create organizational structure and operating cadences for new deployment functions, establish clear decision-making frameworks for incomplete information, and adapt priority allocation as customer needs and market dynamics evolve in fast-moving AI environments.
  • Track Adoption and Ensure Ongoing Ownership: Measure customer adoption metrics, establish ownership models for scaled solutions, and maintain focus on sustained business value creation as deployments grow across the customer base. Monitor integration patterns, data utilization, and enterprise deployment constraints.
