The role

Summary

Quora is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for their Ads team to drive high-impact projects in their mission-critical online advertising platform. The role involves architecting and implementing scalable solutions that generate revenue while working cross-functionally with machine learning engineers, data scientists, and product managers to enhance Quora's advertising ecosystem.

What you'll do

Project Execution: Drive projects from initial concept to full production using the complete technology stack, ensuring comprehensive implementation and delivery
Platform Architecture: Architect, design, and implement features for the online ad platform, focusing on massive scale and data-driven iterative improvements
Strategic Feature Development: Identify and develop high-impact features that simultaneously meet engineering objectives and revenue goals, with clear rationale for design decisions
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with designers, engineers, and data scientists to prototype, implement, and analyze the impact of new functionalities

What we look for

Technical

Programming ProficiencyExcellent proficiency with Python or equivalent programming languages
Backend Storage SystemsComprehensive knowledge of backend storage systems like MySQL, HBase, Memcached, or Redis
Frontend TechnologiesStrong understanding of frontend technologies including React, JavaScript, and TypeScript
Distributed SystemsProven experience working with large-scale distributed systems

Education

Academic BackgroundBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field preferred

Experience

Product Development6+ years of full-time product development experience building consumer or enterprise web products
Advertising Domain2+ years of industry experience in online advertising or related areas
