What you'll do.

Staff Frontend Software Engineer role on Snowflake's AI Products team building Observe, an AI-powered observability platform. This position offers the opportunity to set technical direction for AI-native frontend architecture, design agentic AI interfaces for production systems, and drive the development of real-time integration platforms like the Slack integration. Responsibilities

  • Set Technical Direction for AI Products Frontend Architecture: Define foundational technical decisions for the AI Products team's frontend architecture, including component systems, state management patterns, and rendering strategies that scale across a rapidly expanding product surface. This includes establishing code standards, architectural patterns, and engineering practices that enable the team to ship features at startup velocity while maintaining enterprise-grade quality.
  • Drive AI SRE Product Development from Concept to Production: Own the frontend architecture of Observe's flagship AI SRE product, translating product vision into technical implementation. Build user interfaces that help engineering teams resolve production issues 10x faster through AI-powered signal correlation and root cause analysis. This involves designing intuitive surfaces for complex observability data and AI-driven recommendations.
  • Design Agentic AI User Interfaces: Build innovative frontend interfaces that surface multi-step AI reasoning, tool-use results, and real-time streaming responses in ways that feel immediate, trustworthy, and actionable. Create experiences that help users understand and trust AI agent decision-making processes while operating production systems at scale.
  • Develop Slack Integration and Platform Connectivity: Design and implement the Observe Slack integration, creating real-time conversational surfaces that allow users to interact with the AI SRE agent directly within existing ChatOps workflows. Own the technical strategy for future platform integrations and define how Observe extends into users' preferred productivity tools.
  • Build CLI Tooling and Evaluation Infrastructure: Contribute to the design and development of CLI tools for Observe's agentic systems and implement evaluation pipelines that measure model and system quality. Define the developer experience for interacting with AI agents programmatically and establish rigorous evaluation standards for production systems.
  • Expand Model Context Protocol (MCP) Integrations: Lead development of Observe's MCP server integrations and extension architecture, enabling third-party integrations and expanding the reach of agentic AI capabilities. Design extensible interfaces that allow LLM-powered systems to safely and reliably invoke external tools and services.
  • Provide Technical Mentorship and Raise Engineering Excellence: Mentor and elevate engineers across the AI Products team through comprehensive code reviews, detailed architecture guidance, collaborative design documents, and pair programming sessions. Raise the technical bar for the entire group by sharing knowledge about agentic AI patterns, complex state management, and production-scale frontend engineering.
  • Collaborate on Product Strategy and User Experience: Work closely with product management and design teams to shape the AI Products roadmap, influence feature prioritization, and ensure every shipped feature balances thoughtful user experience with technical sound architecture. Advocate for user-centric solutions and challenge designs that don't serve end-user outcomes.

  • Expert-Level TypeScript

    Demonstrate expert proficiency in TypeScript with the ability to write idiomatic, type-safe code and architect large TypeScript codebases.   • Server-Side Node.js Development

    Strong production experience building Node.js applications and APIs using frameworks like Express, Hono, Fastify, or equivalent. Comfortable designing APIs, implementing middleware, managing asynchronous patterns, and building backend services that support complex frontend requirements.

  • Model Context Protocol (MCP) Implementation

    Hands-on experience implementing or consuming MCP servers and understanding the protocol architecture. Ability to design extensible tool interfaces for LLM-powered systems and integrate external services safely into AI workflows.

  • Observability and Data Telemetry

    Understanding of observability fundamentals including logs, metrics, traces, and events. Familiarity with OpenTelemetry standards, APM tools, and the observability data model that enables root cause analysis and production issue resolution.

  • 10+ Years Professional Software Engineering

    Minimum 10 years of professional software engineering experience across full technology stack domains, demonstrating progression from mid-level to senior engineering roles with increasing impact and responsibility.

  • 6+ Years Frontend Engineering Leadership

    At least 6 years focused on frontend engineering with proven ability to ship production-scale features, own architectural decisions, and drive technical initiatives. Experience managing the full lifecycle of frontend products from conception through scaling to enterprise customers.

  • Technical Leadership and Architecture

AS A STAFF FRONTEND SOFTWARE ENGINEER AT OBSERVE BY SNOWFLAKE, YOU WILL:

  • Set technical direction for the AI Products frontend architecture, making foundational decisions about component systems, state management, and rendering strategies that scale across a rapidly growing product surface

  • Opportunity to work on the AI SRE product, Observe's flagship tool that helps engineering teams resolve production issues 10x faster through AI-powered signal correlation, driving its frontend architecture from concept through production

  • Design and build agentic AI interfaces that surface complex multi-step reasoning, tool-use results, and real-time streaming responses in ways that feel immediate, trustworthy, and actionable to users

  • Contribute to the design and development of the Observe Slack integration, creating real-time conversational surfaces that allow users to interact with the AI SRE agent directly inside their existing workflows, and own the technical strategy for future platform integrations

OUR IDEAL STAFF FRONTEND SOFTWARE ENGINEER WILL HAVE:

  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 6 years focused on frontend engineering shipping production products at scale

  • Expert-level TypeScript proficiency, this is non-negotiable for the role; you write idiomatic, type-safe code and have opinions about how to structure large TypeScript codebases

  • Deep experience building complex, interactive web applications, you've owned entire product surfaces, not just individual components, and made architectural decisions that stood up over time

  • Production experience with agentic AI systems and tool-use patterns, including hands-on work with SDKs like the Vercel AI SDK, Anthropic Agent SDK, LangGraph, or equivalent, you understand how to build UIs for non-deterministic, streaming, multi-step agent workflows

  • Strong server-side Node.js experience (Express, Hono, Fastify, or similar), you're comfortable building APIs, middleware, and backend services, not just consuming them

  • Experience implementing or consuming MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers, you understand the protocol and can design extensible tool interfaces for LLM-powered systems
