What you'll do.
Tabs, an AI-native revenue automation platform backed by Lightspeed Venture Partners and General Catalyst, is seeking a Senior Frontend Engineer to lead the design system and component library development. This role offers the opportunity to shape the developer and user experience for a high-growth fintech company while working in a fast-paced, collaborative NYC-based environment on critical contract-to-cash automation features for modern finance teams.
Responsibilities
- Full Lifecycle Software Development: Lead end-to-end frontend development from architectural design and inception through implementation, testing, deployment, and production maintenance. Ensure code quality, performance optimization, and reliability across the entire development lifecycle with emphasis on scalable, maintainable solutions.
- Design System and Component Architecture: Design and build a comprehensive design system and componentized library that enables rapid feature development across teams and AI agents. Establish standards, documentation, and best practices that accelerate development velocity while maintaining consistency and accessibility.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with backend engineering teams, product managers, and internal stakeholders to identify improvement opportunities for both internal developer experience and external user experience. Lead design discussions, gather requirements, and ensure frontend considerations are integrated into strategic product decisions.
- Scalable Systems Design and Implementation: Architect and implement highly scalable and reliable frontend systems capable of handling complex financial workflows including contract management, billing, collections, and revenue recognition. Focus on performance optimization, error handling, and enterprise-grade reliability.
- Strategic Feature Development and Innovation: Proactively contribute architectural ideas for new features, identify technical debt and areas for improvement, and propose optimizations. Drive innovation within the platform by evaluating emerging technologies and methodologies that enhance developer productivity and user satisfaction.
- Engineering Organization Building: Contribute to building and scaling the engineering organization through mentorship, technical leadership, and establishing development practices. Share knowledge, conduct code reviews, and foster a culture of continuous learning and excellence within the growing frontend team.

Technical
TypeScript and JavaScript Proficiency
Expert-level knowledge of TypeScript and JavaScript for production web development. Strong understanding of type systems, async programming, closures, prototypal inheritance, and modern ES6+ features. Ability to write clean, maintainable code that scales across large codebases.
Modern Frontend Frameworks and Libraries
Proficiency with contemporary frontend frameworks such as React, Vue, or Angular. Deep understanding of component lifecycles, state management patterns, performance optimization, and frontend architecture principles. Experience with advanced concepts like hooks, composition patterns, and efficient re-rendering strategies.
Web Performance and Optimization
Expertise in identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks including optimization of bundle sizes, rendering performance, network requests, and caching strategies. Familiarity with web performance metrics, profiling tools, and techniques for building performant user experiences.
Testing and Quality Assurance
Demonstrated ability to write comprehensive tests including unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests. Experience with testing frameworks and establishing quality standards for code that ensures reliability and maintainability.
API Integration and Data Management
Strong experience integrating with RESTful APIs, WebSockets, or GraphQL endpoints. Proficiency in handling state management, data normalization, error handling, and building robust solutions for complex data flows in financial applications.

Computer Science Fundamentals
Strong foundation in core computer science concepts including data structures, algorithms, complexity analysis, and system design principles. Ability to apply these concepts to solve complex frontend architecture and performance problems.
Continuous Learning and Technical Growth
Demonstrated commitment to staying current with latest advancements in software engineering, web standards, and frontend tooling. Proactive approach to learning new technologies and methodologies, with evidence of applying emerging best practices to improve code quality and development velocity.
Experience
5-8 Years Professional Engineering Experience
Demonstrate substantial experience building production-grade software systems at scale, with proven success leading or significantly contributing to major frontend initiatives. Experience should include designing architecture for complex applications, managing technical tradeoffs, and collaborating effectively with distributed teams.
Platform Services Development from Scratch
Proven track record building platform services and foundational systems in resource-constrained environments. Ability to prioritize ruthlessly, make strategic architectural decisions with limited resources, and deliver high-impact solutions that enable other teams to ship faster.
Design System and Component Development
Experience architecting and implementing design systems, component libraries, or frontend platforms that scale across multiple teams. Understanding of best practices in component composition, documentation, accessibility, and maintaining consistency across complex applications.

About the Role
Tabs is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Frontend Platform team. We’re building a design system and component-izing our library to define a simple and scalable way that teams and agents can build and add new features quickly. As a member of our early-stage startup, you’ll have the opportunity to shape the direction of the company and make a meaningful impact on our success. This team not only owns, but drives, the user and developer experience for our frontend platforms.

About You
5-8 years of professional engineering experience
Experience building platform services from scratch, while being resourceful in a constrained-resource environment
Experience with TypeScript, JavaScript, or a similar web development language
