Summary

Tabs is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our AI-native revenue platform team in New York, working closely with the CTO to architect and scale systems handling the contract-to-cash lifecycle for high-growth finance teams. You'll own significant full-stack projects spanning contract parsing, invoicing, billing, payments, and revenue recognition while mentoring engineers and driving AI integration across the platform. This role requires 10+ years of professional software development experience, mastery of TypeScript, Python, and modern frameworks, and the ability to thrive in ambiguous, early-stage problems that shape company direction.

What you'll do

Full-Stack Revenue Lifecycle Architecture: Own and drive significant projects across the entire contract-to-cash pipeline, including contract parsing, invoice generation, billing systems, payment processing, and ASC 606 revenue recognition. You'll coordinate complex, interdependent systems that demand precision with financial data while maintaining system scalability and reliability.
AI-Driven Product Innovation: Integrate generative AI and machine learning models throughout the platform to automate product workflows, improve business processes, and enhance the engineering team's daily productivity. Balance aggressive AI deployment with financial accuracy requirements, ensuring all revenue calculations are exact and audit-compliant.
System Design and Architecture: Collaborate directly with the CTO and product leadership to take complex, ambiguous problems and architect secure, scalable solutions. Translate business requirements into robust technical designs that can handle growing customer demands while maintaining performance and security standards.
Engineering Leadership and Mentorship: Set the technical bar for the growing engineering organization and mentor engineers across the team. Guide team members through complex problem-solving, code reviews, and architectural decisions while fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work directly with CTO, engineering, and product teams to translate complex requirements into production-ready solutions. Participate in short feedback cycles within two-week sprints, leveraging customer feedback and data-driven decision making to prioritize and shape the product roadmap.
Production Excellence and Observability: Ensure robust monitoring, logging, and alerting across all systems using Datadog and Sentry. Drive best practices for production reliability, incident response, and system observability, particularly critical given that the platform handles customer revenue and financial data.

Advanced TypeScript/JavaScript ProficiencyExpert-level knowledge of TypeScript with deep understanding of type systems, advanced patterns, and production-grade application architecture. Demonstrated experience building scalable backend systems with Node.js frameworks.
Python ExpertiseStrong Python development skills, particularly for AI/ML model integration, data processing, and backend services. Ability to work with PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar frameworks for implementing generative AI features.
Distributed Systems and ScalabilityDeep understanding of distributed systems architecture, microservices patterns, event-driven architectures, and database scaling strategies. Experience handling data consistency, eventual consistency, and transaction semantics at scale.
Generative AI IntegrationHands-on experience with large language models (LLMs), prompt engineering, and AI model deployment in production systems. Ability to integrate multiple GenAI APIs and tools while maintaining quality, latency, and cost efficiency.
Financial Systems and ComplianceUnderstanding of financial software design patterns, including invoice generation, billing cycles, payment processing, and revenue recognition (ASC 606). Familiarity with regulatory requirements in fintech and accounting software.
Cloud Infrastructure and DevOpsProduction experience with AWS services including Lambda, RDS, S3, and API Gateway. Understanding of infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and deployment automation.
Fundamental Computer Science ConceptsStrong grasp of algorithms, data structures, time/space complexity analysis, and ability to apply these fundamentals to solve real-world problems. Comfort with system design interviews and architectural trade-offs.

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Related FieldStrong foundation in computer science principles, algorithms, data structures, and software engineering fundamentals. Equivalent professional experience is equally valued.
Continuous Learning in AI/MLEvidence of self-directed learning in generative AI, machine learning, and modern AI frameworks. Active participation in the AI community through projects, publications, or open-source contributions.

10+ Years Professional Software DevelopmentExtensive experience shipping high-impact products across multiple domains, with demonstrated ability to lead through different product lifecycle stages. Proven track record of taking projects from conception to production at scale.
Large-Scale System Design LeadershipExperience designing and implementing complex systems in high-growth environments where architectural decisions have significant business impact. History of mentoring junior engineers and influencing technical direction.
Full-Stack Product DevelopmentHands-on experience across frontend, backend, and infrastructure layers. Demonstrated ability to understand complete product architecture and make informed trade-offs between performance, scalability, and developer velocity.
