The role

Summary

Teamworks is seeking a Staff Applied AI Engineer to lead the development of AI-powered platform capabilities for sports organizations. The role focuses on designing robust AI systems, building reusable infrastructure, and providing technical leadership to enable scalable, reliable AI product experiences across the Teamworks platform.

What you'll do

AI System Architecture: Design and define the architecture for production AI systems across the Teamworks platform, including model orchestration services, tool execution layers, evaluation pipelines, and guardrails.
Platform Infrastructure: Build reusable backend platform components that enable product teams to integrate AI capabilities without rebuilding core infrastructure.
Technology Selection: Evaluate and select appropriate technologies, frameworks, and architectural patterns based on long-term scalability, reliability, and team productivity.
Engineering Standards: Establish comprehensive engineering standards for building, testing, deploying, and operating AI systems in production, including monitoring, evaluation, and failure handling.
Cross-Team Leadership: Lead complex cross-team engineering initiatives to improve system reliability, reduce infrastructure costs, and accelerate AI-powered capabilities delivery.
Data Security: Design backend services that safely query and operate on multi-tenant sports data while enforcing strict data isolation and access controls.
Technical Mentorship: Mentor engineers on backend architecture, distributed systems, and generative AI system design.

Backend DevelopmentExpertise in TypeScript and Node.js for building and maintaining production backend services and APIs
Distributed SystemsProven ability to design scalable, reliable distributed systems with robust performance optimization and failure recovery strategies
Cloud InfrastructureExtensive experience operating cloud-based services in AWS, including deployment, monitoring, logging, and incident response
AI/ML SystemsDemonstrated track record of designing and delivering production AI or machine learning product capabilities

Education

DegreeBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field preferred

Experience

Professional ExperienceMinimum 8+ years of professional software engineering experience building high-impact production systems
Platform InfrastructureProven experience designing shared platform infrastructure, internal services, or engineering frameworks used by multiple product teams
