What you'll do.
Join Wealth.com as a Backend Software Engineer to design and scale mission-critical systems powering the leading estate planning platform trusted by 1,000+ wealth management firms. You'll work on a TypeScript-first stack building APIs, data pipelines, and enterprise integrations that serve tens of thousands of financial advisors and their clients, with significant ownership from architecture through production deployment and monitoring.
Responsibilities
- Design and Develop Backend Services: Architect, build, and maintain scalable backend services including REST APIs, GraphQL endpoints, data pipelines, and enterprise platform integrations that power estate planning, tax planning, and AI-driven products serving tens of thousands of financial advisors.
- Own Complete Feature Lifecycle: Take features from specification and design through implementation, comprehensive testing, production deployment, and post-launch monitoring with operational excellence. Ensure production-grade code quality with strong observability and incident response capabilities.
- Write Production-Grade TypeScript: Develop robust TypeScript backend code with emphasis on type safety, comprehensive test coverage, clear logging, metrics instrumentation, and tracing. Maintain high code quality standards through rigorous testing strategies and operational discipline.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to translate complex, ambiguous business problems into well-scoped, technically sound solutions. Facilitate technical discussions and design reviews to align implementation with product vision and engineering best practices.
- System Design and Architecture: Contribute to critical system design decisions addressing scalability requirements, high-availability infrastructure, security posture, and performance optimization. Evaluate trade-offs between consistency, availability, and partition tolerance for enterprise-grade systems.
- Code Review and Technical Leadership: Participate actively in code reviews, technical design discussions, and mentoring of junior engineers. Help establish engineering best practices, tooling standards, and architectural patterns as the organization scales.
- On-Call Operations: Join on-call rotation to ensure production system reliability. Respond to incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventative measures. Maintain robust monitoring, alerting, and incident response protocols.
- Engineer Culture and Innovation: Help shape and evolve engineering culture, development tooling, testing frameworks, and operational best practices. Drive continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to building an innovative, collaborative engineering organization.

Technical
Backend Systems Development
Proven production experience designing, building, and operating backend systems at meaningful scale. Must demonstrate hands-on expertise handling real traffic volumes, substantial data, and production-grade user bases with complex operational requirements.
TypeScript Proficiency
Strong proficiency in TypeScript or deep, demonstrated expertise in another statically-typed language (Java, Go, C#, Kotlin, Rust) with ability to ramp quickly into TypeScript. Must be comfortable with Node.js runtime and async/await patterns.
Backend Fundamentals Mastery
Solid grasp of core backend concepts including RESTful API design, gRPC, relational databases (SQL optimization, transactions), NoSQL systems, message queues and event-driven architecture, distributed caching strategies, and concurrent programming patterns.
Cloud Infrastructure and DevOps
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), orchestration, infrastructure-as-code, and modern CI/CD pipelines. Familiarity with serverless architectures is beneficial.
Production Operations Mindset
Deep experience with production operational discipline including structured logging frameworks, metrics collection and dashboards, distributed tracing systems, alert design, incident response procedures, and post-mortem analysis for reliability engineering.
Security and Compliance Fundamentals
Understanding of secure coding practices, authentication/authorization patterns, encryption at rest and in transit, and foundational knowledge of regulatory requirements relevant to fintech and financial services applications.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science (Preferred)

Professional Backend Development
Minimum 3+ years of professional software engineering experience specifically shipping production backend systems to scale. Experience should demonstrate progression from individual contributor through increasingly complex system architecture and team collaboration.

Comfort thriving in fast-paced, ambiguous startup environments where priorities shift rapidly, scope evolves continuously, and engineers are expected to own and drive their own work. Ability to balance shipping velocity with technical quality.

The Opportunity
As a Software Engineer at Wealth.com, you will help design, build, and scale the backend systems powering our estate planning, tax planning, and AI-driven products used by tens of thousands of financial advisors and their clients. You'll work on a TypeScript-first stack alongside engineers who have shipped production software at scale, and you'll have significant ownership over the systems you build — from architecture and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
We're hiring across multiple product areas (estate planning, tax planning, Esther AI, platform/integrations) and will match strong engineers to the team where they're most excited to contribute.
Your Responsibilities
Design, build, and operate backend services that power Wealth.com's products — including APIs, data pipelines, and integrations with enterprise wealth management platforms
Take features from spec through design, implementation, testing, deployment, and post-launch monitoring; own what you ship
Write production-grade TypeScript code with strong testing, observability, and operational discipline
Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to translate ambiguous problems into well-scoped technical solutions

Qualifications
