The role

Summary

Developer, Insights is a remote full-stack or backend-leaning position at 1Password, the market leader in enterprise password management and Unified Access Management. This role is critical to 1Password's security infrastructure, where developers build data streaming platforms and core services that deliver impactful reporting and actionable insights to thousands of enterprise customers. You'll own complex domain problems spanning data pipeline architecture, distributed systems, and analytics infrastructure while working with a high-performing team in a fast-paced, security-focused environment that values both technical excellence and innovation.

What you'll do

Design and Develop Production Systems: Code, test, debug, and deliver production software systems for new product features and enhancements to 1Password's Insights platform. Ensure systems are performant, maintainable, and adhere to security standards for handling sensitive enterprise data.
Architect Data Streaming Solutions: Build and maintain data streaming infrastructure and core services that unify diverse audit events and deliver impactful reporting across 1Password's customer base. Solve challenging problems related to data pipeline optimization and distributed systems architecture.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams throughout the entire development cycle to define technical requirements, ensure smooth releases, and align on solutions that balance scalability with business needs.
Technical Leadership and Mentoring: Mentor junior and new team members by providing technical guidance, sharing knowledge, and conducting pair programming sessions. Help team members understand expectations and foster a culture of continuous learning and excellence.
Comprehensive Testing Strategy: Write comprehensive tests throughout all stages of the development cycle including unit, integration, and end-to-end tests. Ensure code functions as expected and maintain high quality standards for production systems handling sensitive customer data.
Code Quality and Knowledge Sharing: Review code for teammates to maintain high code quality and support knowledge sharing within the team. Contribute to creating a safe environment for giving and receiving constructive feedback.
Documentation and Scalability: Generate and review comprehensive documentation on code processes, architecture decisions, and system designs to ensure scalability and enable future maintainability of complex systems.
Work Planning and Estimation: Participate in sprint planning by identifying major tasks, breaking down work into manageable units, providing accurate estimates, and communicating timelines to stakeholders and project managers.
Production Support and On-call Rotations: Participate in on-call rotational work to ensure uninterrupted support for production systems, respond to emergencies promptly, and help resolve incidents that impact customer security and data integrity.
Technical Awareness: Stay informed about the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in software engineering, particularly in areas related to data infrastructure, security systems, and enterprise software development.

Go ProficiencyExpert-level proficiency in Go with demonstrated ability to write idiomatic, efficient, and production-ready code. Must be comfortable building scalable backend systems and microservices.

Education

Experience

Professional Software DevelopmentMinimum 2+ years of professional software development experience building production systems. Must demonstrate a track record of delivering quality code and shipping features to customers.
Backend Systems DevelopmentProven experience building and maintaining backend services, APIs, or infrastructure systems. Should be comfortable working with complex domains and scaling systems to handle significant data volumes.
Cross-functional CollaborationDemonstrated experience working effectively with product, design, and business teams to translate requirements into technical solutions and communicate progress transparently.
On-call SupportExperience participating in on-call rotations for production systems and responding to incidents, demonstrating reliability and ownership mentality.

Go ProgrammingDemonstrated proficiency in Go with a solid foundation in building production-grade backend systems. Must have at least 2+ years of professional software development experience with the ability to write clean, efficient, and maintainable Go code.
Software Development Best PracticesProven experience applying SOLID principles, design patterns, and coding standards. Must demonstrate discipline in code reviews, testing methodologies, and maintaining high code quality across production systems.
