Summary

Airwallex is seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to join their Liquidity Platform team in Singapore, responsible for building advanced global liquidity management systems. The ideal candidate will design and develop critical financial infrastructure that supports efficient fund management, regulatory compliance, and operational decision-making across multiple markets.

What you'll do

Liquidity Management Systems: Design, build, and own backend services for global liquidity management, safeguarding, investment workflows, and cash data management.

Distributed Systems Development: Develop scalable platforms for liquidity forecasting, cash positioning, internal fund movement, and operational decision-making.

Compliance Infrastructure: Contribute to global safeguarding compliance infrastructure by building reliable systems supporting regulatory reporting, fund segregation, and reconciliation processes.

Data Pipeline Engineering: Build data pipelines, models, and analytical capabilities to improve visibility into cash positions, liquidity usage, and optimization opportunities.

System Reliability: Implement robust controls for limits, approvals, monitoring, and auditability to ensure predictable platform performance under stress scenarios.

What we look for

Technical

Programming LanguagesExpertise in JVM languages (Kotlin, Java) or comparable backend stack

Distributed SystemsStrong understanding of concurrency, data consistency, idempotency, and failure modes in networked services

API DevelopmentExperience with REST and gRPC APIs, persistent layers using PostgreSQL and key-value stores

Education

Computer ScienceBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field preferred

Experience

Backend Development5+ years of experience building and operating backend systems in production

Financial SystemsPreferred experience in fintech, payments, treasury, or banking infrastructure
