The role

Summary

Airwallex is seeking an Engineering Lead/Manager for their Risk Platform team in Singapore to lead fraud detection systems and risk management products at global scale. This hands-on leadership role requires 8+ years of backend engineering experience with 2+ years in management, specializing in distributed systems, fintech, and risk management technologies. The position involves building high-performing teams while architecting real-time detection systems using cutting-edge technologies like ML, graph databases, and LLMs.

What you'll do

Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic leadership for mission-critical fraud and risk platform, aligning technical direction with business goals and regulatory requirements

Team Building: Build and scale high-performing engineering organization including managers and senior ICs, setting goals and career paths

Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with PM, Design, Ops, Commercial and Strategy teams to shape fraud management products

Roadmap Planning: Partner with PM to define roadmap, prioritize backlog, and deliver outcomes improving detection rates and reducing false positives

Architecture Ownership: Serve as accountable owner for architecture and system quality, ensuring reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency

Hands-on Technical Leadership: Guide designs, review critical code and APIs, and de-risk complex initiatives with technical deep dives

Quality Standards: Drive design and code quality through standards, reviews, and automated checks

Operational Excellence: Own on-call readiness, incident response, postmortems, observability, and capacity planning

Talent Management: Lead talent strategy including recruiting, onboarding, and developing engineers and managers

System Integration: Ensure collaboration with platform, data, SRE, security, and global engineering teams

Java ProficiencyExpert-level Java including multi-threading, high-concurrency patterns, I/O/NIO, and network programming

Distributed SystemsDeep experience with high-availability, high-throughput architectures, caching, partitioning, consistency models

Spring FrameworkProficiency with Spring/Spring Boot, HTTP, TCP/IP, REST
