Summary

Airwallex is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to join their Scale team, building multi-tenant embedded finance infrastructure for enterprise clients like Brex, Rippling, and SHEIN. This role requires 8+ years of Java/Spring Boot experience to architect high-performance systems handling 100k+ QPS while designing cross-domain features spanning business, regulatory, and technical domains.

What you'll do

Embedded Finance Platform Development: Build and maintain multi-tenant infrastructure powering enterprise clients like Brex, Rippling, Navan, Qantas, and SHEIN with enterprise-grade SLAs

Cross-Domain Feature Architecture: Own features requiring synthesis across business, regulatory, and technical domains including tax systems, compliance flows, and monetization tools

Solutions Architecture: Design integrations for enterprise prospects by translating business requirements into technical solutions that influence multi-million dollar deals

System Performance Optimization: Architect systems handling 100k+ QPS with strict latency requirements and cross-data-center scenarios

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with Product, Design, Compliance, and Sales teams to deliver integrated solutions from concept to launch

Technical Leadership: Lead multi-team initiatives with measurable technical and business impact while mentoring other engineers

Data-Driven Decision Making: Leverage analytics to measure product success and identify optimization opportunities for growth

Production Excellence: Design for scale, maintainability, and operational excellence in mission-critical financial systems

Backend Development Experience8+ years of software engineering experience with Java/Spring Boot
