Summary

Benchling is seeking an experienced Engineering Leader for their Molecular Biology team, responsible for developing innovative software tools that support scientific workflows. The ideal candidate will lead a high-performing engineering team, drive product strategy, and contribute to transforming biotechnology research through cutting-edge software solutions.

What you'll do

Team Leadership: Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing team of software engineers specializing in molecular biology software development
Product Strategy: Collaborate closely with product and design teams to define long-term roadmap and product strategy for scientific workflow tools
Quality Assurance: Maintain an exceptionally high standard of product quality and technical decision-making
Customer Engagement: Directly engage with customers to understand scientific needs and inform product development
Organizational Development: Contribute to broader engineering-wide organizational improvements and team management

What we look for

Technical

Software Engineering ExperienceMinimum 5+ years of software engineering experience, with technical lead experience on multi-quarter projects
Team ManagementProven track record of managing high-performing engineering teams for customer-focused products

Education

Computer Science or Related FieldBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline preferred

Experience

Management Experience3+ years of experience managing engineering teams, with expertise in distributed team leadership
Career DevelopmentExperience in growing early-to-mid-career engineers into impactful leaders
