Role

What you'll do.

Lead Cohere's Deployment Engineering team in North America as an Engineering Manager overseeing Forward Deployed Engineers building enterprise agentic AI solutions. This hands-on leadership role requires 8+ years of software engineering experience with 2+ years in team management, where you'll drive technical implementation, customer success, and secure AI integration across critical sectors like finance, healthcare, and telecommunications. You'll balance strategic team leadership with hands-on problem-solving in a fast-paced, high-growth environment focused on deploying large language models and agentic platforms in on-premises enterprise environments.

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership and Mentorship: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Forward Deployed Engineers focused on designing and delivering agentic solutions using Cohere's North platform in on-premises enterprise environments. Foster a culture of technical excellence, continuous improvement, and innovation while supporting career growth and professional development.
  • Customer Success and Technical Implementation: Own the complete customer journey from initial technical implementation through successful delivery of AI solutions. Build and maintain strong relationships with technical stakeholders at customer organizations, ensuring seamless integration of agentic platforms into critical business processes and workflows.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, and Sales teams to define and shape enterprise AI delivery strategies. Translate customer requirements and technical constraints into actionable deployment plans, ensuring alignment between business objectives and technical capabilities.
  • Process Definition and Scaling: Define, implement, and refine scalable processes for agent development, deployment, and management across multiple client environments. Establish best practices for enterprise AI implementation that balance security, performance, and rapid time-to-value.
  • Enterprise Security and Compliance Integration: Oversee secure AI integration into highly regulated industries including finance, healthcare, and telecommunications. Ensure all deployments meet industry-specific compliance requirements, security standards, and data governance policies while maintaining audit trails and transparency.
  • Technical Execution and Problem-Solving: Remain hands-on by actively contributing to complex technical challenges, code reviews, architecture decisions, and deployment strategies. Demonstrate high agency by identifying and solving problems proactively without waiting for direction.

  • Large Language Models and Agentic Systems

    Strong understanding of large language model fundamentals, agentic AI architectures, prompt engineering, and practical applications of foundation models in enterprise environments.

  • Enterprise Systems Architecture

    Proven expertise in designing and deploying scalable enterprise software systems, including distributed systems, microservices architecture, and on-premises deployment patterns.

  • API Development and Integration

    Deep experience building, deploying, and integrating APIs in production enterprise environments, with understanding of API security, versioning, monitoring, and scaling strategies.

  • Cloud and On-Premises Infrastructure

    Technical proficiency with both cloud platforms and on-premises infrastructure deployment, containerization, orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code practices.

  • Security and Compliance

    Working knowledge of enterprise security principles, compliance frameworks, data governance, and secure software development practices required for regulated industries.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Related Field

    Preferred bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical discipline. Equivalent professional experience can substitute for formal education.

Experience

  • Software Engineering Experience

    8+ years of professional software engineering experience with demonstrated expertise in designing, building, and deploying enterprise-scale systems and applications.

  • Engineering Team Management

    2+ years of hands-on experience managing and mentoring software engineering teams, with proven ability to develop team members, establish engineering culture, and deliver results in high-growth environments.

  • Enterprise Software Deployment

    Hands-on experience building and deploying enterprise software at scale, with specific focus on agentic applications, AI platform integration, and on-premises deployment scenarios.

  • Fast-Paced Growth Environment

    Track record of thriving and executing effectively in fast-paced, high-growth technical environments with rapidly changing priorities, ambiguous requirements, and aggressive timelines.

About the Role

We're looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Deployment Engineering team in North America. This isn't a typical management role - we need someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and leads from the front: technically sharp, hands-on, and relentlessly focused on impact. You'll manage a team of Forward Deployed Engineers on the front lines of building agentic solutions with Cohere's North platform, balancing technical excellence with the kind of team leadership that actually moves things forward. You'll be solving complex problems and securely integrating AI into critical sectors such as finance, healthcare, and telecommunications.
