Role

What you'll do.

Join Cohere as a Software Engineer, Integrations on the North AI platform's Data Abstractions & Tools team. In this role, you'll architect and maintain the integration pipeline end-to-end, building new tool connectors, creating comprehensive evals and tests, and helping other engineers extend the agentic platform. You'll own the complete lifecycle from design through production maintenance while working with foundation AI models at enterprise scale, requiring production-level API integration experience and familiarity with agentic systems evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • Build and Maintain Production Integrations: Design, develop, and maintain new tool integrations on the North agentic platform while ensuring existing production integrations remain stable and performant. Ship code that directly enables enterprise users to connect their workflows with AI agents through external APIs and data sources.
  • Own Integration Pipeline Architecture: Take ownership of the end-to-end integration pipeline process, from initial design and architecture through shipping and ongoing maintenance. Document standards, establish best practices, and create repeatable processes that scale as the platform grows and the number of integrations increases.
  • Engineer and Lead Evaluation Frameworks: Create comprehensive evals, tests, and monitoring systems to validate that integrations work as expected and continue functioning as the platform evolves. Build regression detection and alerting systems that maintain quality standards across the growing integration ecosystem.
  • Optimize Tool Descriptions and Performance: Analyze integration performance through prompt engineering and tool-description tuning. Iterate based on user feedback and eval results to improve how agents understand and utilize integrated tools, directly impacting system accuracy and user value.
  • Enable and Support Other Engineers: Help other engineers add integrations to the platform and raise the bar for how the team approaches integration development. Mentor teammates, establish clear patterns and documentation, and foster a culture of high-quality, maintainable integration code.
  • Leverage AI in Development Workflow: Use AI tools actively throughout your development process while maintaining accountability for the quality and reliability of shipped code. Understand when AI assistance accelerates development and when manual oversight is critical for enterprise-grade systems.

We’re training and deploying frontier models for enterprises who are building AI systems. We believe that our work is instrumental to the widespread adoption of AI and we are looking for folks that want to be part of that.

We obsess over what we build. Each one of us is responsible for contributing to increasing the capabilities of our models and the value they drive for our customers. Cohere is a team of researchers, engineers, designers, and more, who are all passionate about their craft.

We are a global technology company headquartered in Toronto with key offices in London, New York City, San Francisco, Montreal, Paris, Berlin and Seoul. Join us!

About North:

North is Cohere's cutting-edge AI workspace platform, designed to revolutionize the way enterprises utilize AI. It offers a secure and customizable environment, allowing companies to deploy AI while maintaining control over sensitive data. North integrates seamlessly with existing workflows, providing a trusted platform that connects AI agents with workplace tools and applications.

Why this role:

The Data Abstractions & Tools team is the group inside North responsible for how users bring their data into the platform and put it to work. We own the systems that let users upload, organize, and share their files and knowledge bases, the framework for extending agents with skills and third-party integrations, and the data-sync pipeline that connects enterprise data sources to North's agents.

North connects to a growing set of external tools and data sources so its agents can act on a user's real workflow. This role owns the integration pipeline end-to-end: adding new integrations to the platform, helping other engineers do the same, and becoming the owner of the process that makes that repeatable. You will also create the evals and tests that make sure those integrations work as expected and keep working as the platform evolves.

In this role, you will:

  • Build new integrations (tools) on the North agentic platform, and maintain the ones already in production.

  • Own the integration pipeline: the process for adding a new tool, from design to shipping to ongoing maintenance.

  • Help other engineers add integrations of their own, and raise the bar for how the team does it.

  • Create evals and tests to make sure integrations work as expected and alert on regressions.

  • Tune tool descriptions to improve performance based on feedback and evals.

  • Use AI actively in your work, while staying accountable for the quality and reliability of what you ship.

You may be a good fit if:

  • You have shipped production code and are comfortable building integrations against external APIs.

  • You have a background in evaluating agentic systems (ideal), or at minimum know what an eval is and are comfortable with prompt engineering and tool-description tuning.

  • You excel in fast-paced environments and can execute while priorities are a moving target.

  • You bring high agency: you learn quickly and drive change without waiting for perfect instructions.

  • You've owned things end-to-end before and care about the quality of what ships, not just that it shipped.

  • You enjoy helping other engineers succeed, not just shipping your own work.

Working Location:

This role can be based remotely or from one of our office locations listed on the job description - there is no minimum in-office qualification requirement. We care most about hiring exceptional people regardless of locations, though please check the location listed on the posting for guidance around the core time zone or working hours alignment expected for the role.

Compensation:

  • For candidates based in California, New York and Washington States, the compensation range is: $180,000 – $225,000

  • For candidates based elsewhere in the US, the compensation range is: $150,000 – $190,000

  • For candidates based in Canada, the compensation range is: $215,000 – $270,000

Full-Time Employees at Cohere enjoy these Perks:

  • A weekly lunch stipend of $75/£75 or equivalent in your local currency for lunch.

  • Full health and dental benefits, including a separate budget for mental health.

  • RRSP matching, 401K, Pension Scheme.

  • 100% Parental Leave top-up for up to 6 months, for either parent.

  • Annual enrichment benefits:

Arts & culture, fitness/wellness, quality time, and a workspace improvement credit.

Education & learning stipend for conferences, courses, and coaching.

  • 6 weeks of paid vacation (30 working days!)

  • Budget for traveling to other offices if you are remote, plus an annual company offsite.

How and Where We Work:

  • Cohere is remote-friendly, but we also have offices in Toronto, London, New York City, San Francisco, Montreal, Paris, Berlin and Seoul with more opening soon.

  • For those in the office: a daily lunch program, plenty of snacks, and regular community and social events.

  • For those not near an office: a co-working benefit so you can work alongside others in your city.

  • Everyone receives a $500 home office stipend to set up your workspace properly.

If any of the above doesn’t line up exactly with your experience, we still encourage you to apply.

We strive to create an inclusive work environment for all; we welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are committed to providing equal opportunities. Should you require any accommodations during the recruitment process, please submit an Accommodations Request Form, and we will work together to meet your needs.

We may use AI-enabled tools to screen and assess applicants against the criteria for this position. This helps our recruiters identify potentially qualified candidates, but it doesn't limit the applications our recruiters may review or consider.
