Summary

Confluent is seeking a hands-on Senior Engineering Manager to lead their Kafka team, managing thousands of distributed clusters across major cloud platforms. The ideal candidate will drive technical vision, mentor high-performance teams, and solve complex distributed systems challenges at massive scale.

What you'll do

Strategic Leadership: Define and drive the overall roadmap for the Kafka organization team, setting clear technical direction and vision

Team Development: Grow, coach, and nurture a high-performance team of distributed systems engineers, including hiring and performance management

Technical Initiatives: Lead critical technical initiatives focused on reliability, performance, scalability, and multi-tenancy of cloud services

Operational Excellence: Champion a culture of continuous improvement through root cause analyses and implementing corrective actions to enhance service security and performance

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product management, engineering leadership, and stakeholders to align roadmaps and solve complex cross-organizational challenges

What we look for

Technical

Distributed SystemsProven hands-on experience designing, building, and operating distributed systems at scale in major public clouds (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

Cloud InfrastructureDeep understanding of cloud infrastructure and multi-cloud deployment strategies

System ReliabilityExpertise in ensuring system reliability, performance optimization, and scalability

Education

Computer Science DegreeBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent technical field

Experience

Software DevelopmentMinimum 12 years of software development experience

Engineering ManagementMinimum 4 years in an engineering management role
