Summary

Deliveroo, now part of DoorDash, is seeking an Engineering Manager for their Developer Experience (DevEx) team in London to lead the development of automated development environments and AI-assisted tooling that empowers thousands of engineers. The role combines technical leadership with people management, focusing on building world-class infrastructure for developer productivity using technologies like DevContainers, remote IDEs, and AI workflows.

What you'll do

Platform Evolution: Define and evolve DevBox as the primary development platform, overseeing remote VM lifecycles and JetBrains remote backends
Technical Leadership: Partner with Staff Engineers to review complex technical design documents and pull requests for internal tooling
AI Integration Management: Lead productization of AI-assisted tooling including Claude Code and MCP connectors while ensuring IP safety and privacy
Operational Excellence: Establish SLOs, on-call rotations, and incident response procedures for internal platform reliability
Team Management: Manage, coach, and mentor a high-performing engineering team while fostering psychological safety and career growth
Stakeholder Communication: Represent the team in group-wide planning and communicate roadmaps to Product, Security, and SRE partners
Development Environment Design: Architect seamless onboarding experiences and automated development workflows for thousands of engineers
Security Implementation: Ensure secure access patterns, secrets management, and managed software distribution across development environments

Infrastructure ExpertiseSignificant experience with devcontainer workflows, remote IDE orchestration, and VM snapshotting technologies
Development ToolingStrong background building developer CLIs and workstation automation using Go, Python, or TypeScript
Security & NetworkingDeep understanding of secure access patterns, VPN solutions, secrets management, and software distribution

Education

Computer Science DegreeBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field preferred

Engineering ManagementDemonstrated experience managing high-performing engineering teams and delivering complex production systems
DevEx Leadership5+ years experience in developer experience, platform engineering, or infrastructure roles
Technical LeadershipTrack record of making technical decisions and driving engineering excellence in fast-paced environments
