The role

Summary

Deliveroo is seeking a Platform Engineer II to join their Edge team within the Foundations engineering group, focusing on global traffic routing, CDN optimization, and network security at scale. This mid-level role requires hands-on experience with edge technologies, distributed systems, and production-grade infrastructure, working in a hybrid environment from London headquarters.

What you'll do

Traffic Infrastructure Design: Design, implement, test and operate systems that handle production traffic reliably and at low latency across global scale

Multi-Region Routing: Work on traffic-critical initiatives including multi-region routing, intelligent failover, and traffic policy optimization

CDN and Proxy Optimization: Implement edge-to-mesh optimization, CDN tuning, proxy configuration, and DNS/routing improvements

Technical Documentation: Design robust, well-documented features and write Technical Design Documents (TDDs) that communicate trade-offs and operational considerations

Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with adjacent teams including SRE, Security, and Product Engineering to de-risk delivery and solve complex problems

Operational Excellence: Define SLOs, ensure high-signal monitoring and low-noise alerting, maintain runbooks, and participate in on-call rotations

Code Quality Leadership: Provide constructive code and design reviews, improve team practices, and lead technical interviews to raise engineering standards

Post-Incident Learning: Participate in post-incident reviews and implement improvements to prevent future issues and enhance system reliability

Technical

Edge TechnologiesHands-on experience with CDNs (Cloudflare/Fastly), proxies (Nginx/HAProxy), ALB/ELB, DNS (Route53) and VPC routing

Distributed SystemsStrong technical foundation in distributed systems, platform/infrastructure engineering, and cloud networking

High-Performance SystemsExperience in low-latency, high-throughput systems and production-grade service development

Infrastructure as CodeProficiency with infrastructure tooling such as Terraform for automated provisioning and management

Programming LanguagesExperience with Go and other languages used in the company's technology stack

Education

Computer Science DegreeBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience

Experience

Software Engineering3-5 years of experience in platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, or similar roles

Production SystemsProven ability to ship work from inception to delivery in production environments

Customer EngineeringExperience working closely with and building relationships with internal engineering teams as customers

Operational ExcellenceExperience driving operational excellence including SLOs, on-call responsibilities, runbooks, and post-incident reviews
