Summary

Deliveroo is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to join their Edge team, responsible for global traffic routing, CDN management, and network security at scale. This role requires expertise in distributed systems, networking technologies, and infrastructure engineering to ensure fast, resilient, and secure traffic handling across Deliveroo's global platform.

What you'll do

End-to-End Project Delivery: Design, implement, test, and operate systems that handle production traffic reliably and at low latency within the Edge domain

Traffic-Critical Initiatives: Work on multi-region routing, intelligent failover, traffic policy, edge-to-mesh optimization, CDN & proxy tuning, and DNS/routing improvements

Technical Documentation: Design robust, well-documented technical solutions and write Technical Design Documents (TDDs) that communicate trade-offs and operational considerations

Project Leadership: Lead and coordinate implementation work by breaking down projects, guiding design and implementation choices

Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with adjacent teams including SRE, Security, and Product teams to de-risk delivery and solve complex problems

Operational Excellence: Own operational readiness for services by defining SLOs, ensuring high-signal monitoring, maintaining runbooks, and participating in on-call rotations

Post-Incident Learning: Participate in post-incident reviews and implement improvements to prevent future issues

Engineering Mentorship: Mentor junior engineers, provide constructive code and design reviews, and help raise the engineering standards within the team

Global Scale Infrastructure: Manage and optimize global traffic routing, content delivery networks, and network security patterns including WAFs, rate limiting, and DDoS mitigation

Edge TechnologiesHands-on experience with CDNs (Cloudflare/Fastly), proxies (Nginx/HAProxy), ALB/ELB, DNS (Route53) and VPC routing

Distributed SystemsStrong technical foundation in distributed systems, platform/infrastructure engineering, and cloud networking

Infrastructure as CodeExperience with infrastructure tooling, particularly Terraform for cloud resource management

Programming LanguagesProficiency in Go and other languages used by the company for backend development

Education
