The role

Summary

Staff Platform Engineer role at Deliveroo leading the Local DevEx team to build developer tools and platforms. The position involves architecting developer experience solutions including DevContainers, IDE tooling, and CI/CD systems while mentoring engineers and driving technical strategy across multiple teams.

What you'll do

Technical Architecture Leadership: Define and own technical architecture for local and remote development flows including DevContainers and IDE remote backends

Developer Experience Design: Design and continuously improve paved-path developer journeys including time-to-first-change and onboarding flows

Remote Execution Strategy: Own integration strategy for remote execution systems like BuildBuddy and accelerate monorepo development

Cross-Team Collaboration: Align non-adjacent teams including Product, Security, Core Infrastructure and Product Engineering

Engineering Mentorship: Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through technical design reviews and architectural guidance

Technical Hiring Leadership: Lead engineering interviews, set hiring standards, and contribute to onboarding senior engineers

Project Management: Forecast and manage project timelines, risks, and set sustainable team pace

Platform Integration: Build seamless integration points into the engineering ecosystem and CI/remote-exec interactions

Developer Platform ExpertiseDeep experience in developer platforms, DevContainers, remote development, or developer workstation tooling

Production Systems DeliveryDemonstrated experience shipping production systems and cross-team initiatives
