The role

Summary

OpenAI's Identity team is seeking a Senior Frontend Engineer to build secure, scalable user experiences for identity management across OpenAI's products including ChatGPT and Sora. This role involves developing complex authentication flows, enterprise SSO integrations, and admin interfaces that enable secure AI adoption at scale.

What you'll do

Identity Flow Development: Build scalable, reusable frontend components for core identity experiences including sign-in flows, account management, permissions, and admin surfaces
Cross-functional Collaboration: Partner closely with backend and security engineers to deliver end-to-end identity capabilities such as SSO, RBAC, SCIM provisioning, and delegated access
Authentication System Translation: Translate complex authentication and authorization systems (SAML, OIDC, OAuth) into user-friendly, reliable, and trustworthy interfaces for admins and end users
Frontend Architecture Definition: Help define frontend architecture, standards, and patterns for a shared identity platform used across OpenAI's products
Internal Tool Development: Build internal tools and surfaces that enable teams across OpenAI to integrate, manage, and reason about identity and access control effectively
Enterprise Requirements Implementation: Collaborate with Product, Design, Security, and Go-To-Market partners to turn ambiguous enterprise requirements into high-quality, user-centered interfaces

Frontend ExpertiseDeep expertise in frontend frameworks, performance optimization, latency reduction, and building reusable, composable UI systems
Authentication ProtocolsExperience with OAuth 2.0, SAML, OIDC, JWT, and other enterprise authentication standards
Identity ManagementUnderstanding of SSO, RBAC, SCIM provisioning, and enterprise identity federation concepts
Component ArchitectureExperience building scalable, reusable component libraries and design systems
Performance OptimizationProven ability to optimize frontend performance, reduce latency, and improve user experience metrics

Education

Bachelor's DegreeBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)

Frontend DevelopmentAt least 5+ years of frontend engineering experience building and maintaining production-grade web applications
Scalability FocusExperience with usability, scalability, and long-term maintainability of large-scale applications
Cross-functional CollaborationExperience working closely with product, design, security, and go-to-market teams
System EvolutionExperience evolving or re-architecting production systems to support new capabilities and increased scale
Fast-paced EnvironmentAbility to thrive in fast-moving environments with ambiguous requirements and evolving priorities
