The role

Summary

Patreon is seeking a Senior Manager of Platform Engineering to lead infrastructure and platform services teams, driving the core technology that powers their creator economy platform. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in scaling consumer platforms, managing distributed systems, and leading high-performance engineering teams.

What you'll do

Team Leadership: Lead 2-3 Platform & Infrastructure teams covering backend services, databases, and reliability foundations
Strategic Planning: Own roadmap and execution strategy aligned with organizational and business goals
Platform Development: Drive platform initiatives focusing on core backend services, service reliability, performance, and scalability
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Product, Security, Data, and peer engineering leaders
Leadership Development: Develop and mentor engineering managers directly reporting to you
Strategic Contribution: Contribute to area-wide multi-year strategy alongside the Director
Communication: Produce written and verbal updates on risks, tradeoffs, and platform investment decisions

Distributed SystemsExperience designing and operating distributed systems, APIs, and service-oriented architectures in production environments
Platform ScalingDemonstrated experience scaling consumer products, user-generated content platforms, or marketplaces to millions of users
High Availability SystemsExperience operating production systems with high availability and performance requirements

Education

Technical DegreeBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field preferred

Experience

Engineering Management10+ years of engineering experience, including 5+ years in engineering management
Platform LeadershipExperience leading platform, infrastructure, or foundational backend teams

Infrastructure ManagementExpertise in managing complex infrastructure and platform services
LeadershipStrong people management and team development skills
Strategic PlanningAbility to develop and execute long-term technology strategies
