The role

Summary

Plaid is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead its cutting-edge Intelligent Tooling team, focusing on developing AI-powered developer tools and platforms that will transform the software development lifecycle. The ideal candidate will drive organizational-wide AI tool adoption, build a new team from the ground up, and create high-leverage systems that empower Plaid's engineering workforce.

What you'll do

Team Building: Build and grow the Intelligent Tooling engineering team from scratch, including strategic hiring, establishing technical direction, and cultivating team culture and operating norms.
AI Developer Tooling: Develop, integrate, and own Plaid's AI-powered developer tooling and internal platforms, including AI coding tools, agentic workflows, and AI-native SDLC automation.
Platform Ownership: Take comprehensive ownership of existing internal tooling platforms, ensuring reliable operations, clear ownership, and continuous improvements to developer experience.
Adoption Strategy: Drive organization-wide adoption of AI tooling by embedding AI directly into core engineering workflows such as coding, testing, debugging, and incident response.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with DevEff, Security, Privacy, Legal, and other cross-functional teams to ensure AI tooling is safe, compliant, scalable, and aligned with Plaid's standards.
Impact Measurement: Define and execute against clear success metrics to measure the real impact of Intelligent Tooling across the engineering organization.

What we look for

Technical

AI Tooling ExperienceHands-on experience with AI coding tools, agentic workflows, or LLM-powered developer systems
Technical DepthStrong technical judgment with expertise in developer tooling, platform engineering, or applied AI systems in production

Education

Advanced DegreeBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field preferred

Experience

Engineering Leadership8-10+ years of engineering experience, including time as an individual contributor building production systems
Team Management3+ years of experience managing and scaling engineering teams
Tool AdoptionDemonstrated success in driving adoption of new tools or workflows, preferably AI-powered

Required skills

AI DevelopmentDeep understanding of AI technologies and their application in software development workflows
LeadershipStrong ability to translate strategy into execution and deliver measurable outcomes
CommunicationExcellent communication and stakeholder management skills
