The role

Summary

Railway is seeking a Senior Infra Engineer specializing in Observability to build scalable, fault-tolerant infrastructure solutions for high-performance log and metrics ingestion. The ideal candidate will design robust observability systems that support millions of requests per second while creating innovative platform engineering solutions.

What you'll do

Observability Infrastructure: Build ingestion pipelines capable of handling 1M+ requests per second for logs, metrics, and telemetry streams
Alerting Systems: Develop scalable and fault-tolerant alerting engines for real-time threshold breach notifications
API Development: Craft backend observability APIs and provide real-time log/metrics stream access for Dashboard and Product Teams
Service Architecture: Build Golang/Rust gRPC services supporting tens of thousands of users with potential for million-user scale
Infrastructure Management: Define immutable infrastructure using Terraform and Ansible with robust tear-down, failover, and reconstitution capabilities
Documentation: Write comprehensive Engineering Requirement Documents covering project lifecycle from ideation to implementation and success monitoring

Programming LanguagesExpert-level proficiency in Golang and/or Rust for building high-performance microservices
Infrastructure as CodeAdvanced skills in Terraform and Ansible for defining and managing infrastructure
Observability TechnologiesExpertise with observability tools like VictoriaMetrics, ClickHouse, and building comprehensive monitoring stacks

Education

Computer ScienceBachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related technical field

Experience

Infrastructure EngineeringMinimum 5+ years of experience in building scalable, fault-tolerant infrastructure solutions
Startup EnvironmentExperience working in fast-paced, high-growth technology startups with complex technical challenges
