The role

Summary

The HPC Engineer, Services role at Rescale involves becoming a technical expert on the Rescale cloud platform to deliver advanced high-performance computing solutions for demanding customers in aerospace, energy, and manufacturing. You will optimize complex HPC software, develop service best practices, collaborate cross-functionally, and provide technical support for mission-critical simulations. This position requires 2+ years of HPC systems experience, proficiency with Linux/Unix environments and scripting languages, cloud platform knowledge, and foundational understanding of computational engineering disciplines like CFD and FEA.

What you'll do

Platform Expertise Development: Master the Rescale cloud platform and its deep integration with customer workflows across aerospace, energy, and life sciences sectors. Become the go-to technical resource for how Rescale's powerful features enable advanced engineering simulations and scientific discovery.
HPC Software Optimization: Publish, manage, and optimize complex high-performance computing software for demanding enterprise customers. This includes performance tuning for various computational workloads, ensuring software runs efficiently across different cloud infrastructure configurations.
Technical Support and Troubleshooting: Provide comprehensive technical support to customers, independent software vendors, and strategic partners. Diagnose and resolve complex problems related to HPC applications running on Rescale, requiring deep knowledge of both the software and the underlying compute environment.
Service Process Development: Design and implement best practices, processes, and procedures for HPC services and customer support. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance customer satisfaction, quality of deliverables, and service consistency.
Software Maintenance and Benchmarking: Maintain software catalog availability on the Rescale platform through installation, comprehensive benchmarking, and performance optimization. Ensure applications perform optimally within the cloud environment while meeting customer requirements.
Automation and Productivity Enhancement: Identify opportunities to increase operational productivity and customer value realization through automation, tooling, and process improvements. Implement solutions that leverage AI-assisted workflows and infrastructure-as-code methodologies.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work collaboratively with sales, product, engineering, and customer support teams to advocate for customer needs, achieve customer success objectives, and contribute to overall company goals. Act as a bridge between technical teams and customer requirements.
Customer Success Alignment: Actively partner with customer support teams to ensure customer value realization improves at every interaction. Drive customer satisfaction and retention through consistent commitment to service excellence and rapid issue resolution.

Technical

HPC Systems and ApplicationsDemonstrated expertise with high-performance computing systems, schedulers (SLURM, PBS), MPI (Message Passing Interface), containerization technologies (Docker, Singularity), and GPU computing frameworks. Must understand HPC architecture, job scheduling, and distributed computing principles.
Operating Systems ProficiencyAdvanced knowledge of Linux/Unix operating system environments and familiarity with Windows server environments. Must be comfortable with command-line interfaces, shell scripting, system administration, and cross-platform deployment considerations.

Education

Bachelor's DegreeBS or BA degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or closely related technical field. Degree should provide foundational knowledge in mathematics, physics, and computational methods relevant to engineering applications.

Experience

HPC Systems ExperienceMinimum 2+ years of hands-on experience with high-performance computing systems, HPC applications, and production HPC environments. This includes working with computational simulations, job scheduling, resource optimization, and troubleshooting complex HPC workflows.
Cloud and Enterprise PlatformsProfessional experience in cloud computing environments or enterprise platform-as-a-service (PaaS) solutions. Familiarity with provisioning, managing, and supporting applications on cloud infrastructure at scale.
Technical Support or ServicesExperience providing technical support, solutions engineering, or professional services to customers. Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
