The role

Summary

Senior Software Engineer role at Tabs, the AI-native revenue platform for modern finance teams, focused on building and scaling the Merchant Onboarding team. This 0→1 engineering opportunity involves designing end-to-end systems, APIs, and product surfaces across a full stack (TypeScript/Node, React/Next.js, PostgreSQL), with emphasis on system ownership, data modeling, and production reliability in a fast-moving fintech environment.

What you'll do

Design and implement core backend services and APIs: Build scalable backend architecture serving the merchant onboarding pipeline, collaborating with product teams to translate business requirements into robust, maintainable API designs. Architect systems that handle complex data flows, payment reconciliation, and real-time processing while ensuring high availability and fault tolerance.
Develop product-facing interfaces and internal tools: Create intuitive user interfaces and administrative tools that simplify complex financial concepts for both internal teams and external customers. Build responsive product surfaces using modern frontend frameworks that improve operational efficiency and user satisfaction.
Establish reliability and observability infrastructure: Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to maintain high system reliability and enable rapid incident response. Develop observability tooling that provides actionable insights into system performance and helps teams move quickly with confidence in production environments.
Own full system lifecycle from design to production: Take end-to-end ownership of features and systems, from architectural design and implementation through testing, deployment, and production troubleshooting. Manage operational aspects including performance optimization, edge case handling, and long-term system maintenance across the merchant lifecycle.
Collaborate cross-functionally with product and design teams: Participate in design discussions, whiteboard sessions, and architectural reviews to align engineering decisions with product vision. Contribute to system design documentation, technical specifications, and architectural decisions that shape platform evolution.
Drive data modeling and schema design excellence: Design database schemas and data models that support complex financial workflows including billing, revenue recognition (ASC 606 compliance), and payment reconciliation. Optimize for correctness, queryability, and long-term maintainability while supporting rapid iteration and scaling.
